COMMUNITY LIAISON OFFICER - INDIGENOUS
To be successful in this position you will require:
Identified Indigenous Information under s25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991, there is a genuine occupational requirement for the incumbent to be Indigenous to the Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander Community.

This opportunity is best suited to a positive people person who is consumer focused, well organised with effective community engagement strategies in conjunction with Galangoor clinic and outreach teams - such as planning community days, providing key activities, networking with local key stakeholders, identifying barriers to accessing health care, utilising optimum communication and engagement methods and reaching out to ‘hard to reach’ and at-risk groups.
WHAT WE DO:
Galangoor works with the local Indigenous community and relevant key stakeholders to increase access to culturally safe, quality, coordinated and comprehensive primary health care services. We focus on healthcare across the life span, including the management and reduction of chronic disease, to address the health and social inequities of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities of the Fraser Coast Region.
THE POSITION:
As Community Liaison Officer you would lead the development and implementation of local marketing and community engagement strategies to actively increase awareness, access and uptake of health services, ultimately aiming for the best possible health outcomes for the greatest number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people in the Fraser Coast and surrounds. All duties of the role are to be carried out in conjunction with the practice’s policies and procedure
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, coordinate and operationalise Galangoor and other NGO community days in close collaboration with Galangoor clinic and outreach teams
- Develop a structured work plan in close collaboration with community and clinics/outreach teams outlining key activities, timeframes and targets in line with your role and Galangoor Strategic and Operational plan
- Research and identify local community demographics and social networks
- Identify and establish needs, to inform program initiatives, identify barriers to participation and developing way to overcome them
- Become the Galangoor face of community engagement in collaboration with the Galangoor clinics, outreach, allied health and Deadly Choices teams
- Advocate and provide direct support regarding the benefits of increased access to health programs at Galangoor and local service providers
- Engage with hard to reach and at-risk clients and provide encouragement and support to access health and wellbeing services
- Demonstrated ability for public speaking and delivering programs to community and other relevant organisations
ROLE REQUIREMENTS:
- Certificate 111 in Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander Primary Health Care OR equivalent is preferred but not necessary
- Previous work experience in Healthy Lifestyle or similar Health or Community engagement/development programs; in the health or community sector
- Understanding (or ability to develop understanding) and commitment to the concept, philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations (ACCHO) and the Model of Care
- Ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people, with knowledge their social and health issues with a passion and drive to improve health outcomes
- Demonstrated ability to utilize community development processes and to network and work collaboratively with wide range of community members, families/carers and organisations
- Demonstrated competence in use of business technology, internet and desktop applications, e.g. outlook, word, spreadsheet and database packages
- Demonstrated ability to work pro-actively and to use own initiative
- Ability to reflect on work, participate effectively as a member of a team and contribute to further development of the service
- Effective interpersonal skills including a high standard of customer service skills
- Commitment to Professional Development of self and others to encourage lifelong learning
- Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD)
- Current Blue Card

WHAT WE ARE OFFERING:
Salary Package
- Competitive base salary + super + salary sacrifice + 4 weeks annual leave
- Clinic Days are Monday – Friday
- Rostered 7.6 hours between the hours of 8 am to 6 pm
- Occasional attendance at community events may be out of hours or on the weekend
