The Northern Territory Legal Aid Commission (Legal Aid NT) is an independent statutory authority established under the Legal Aid Act 1990. Our purpose is to ensure that people in the Northern Territory understand their legal rights and disadvantaged people have access to quality legal services, and to uphold a fair Northern Territory and national justice system.
About the role:
This exciting new role aligns with Legal Aid NT’s values of social justice and integrity and will work to support vulnerable people accessing our services in the Alice Springs region.
As a member of Social Support team and under the supervision of the Social Support Practice Lead, you will work alongside staff in the Alice Springs office to ensure that barriers are removed, clients are supported, and our services are culturally sound.
About you:
We are seeking a Community Support Officer (CSO) with an understanding of contemporary Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture and the challenges affecting this client group, their families and communities living in the Alice Springs region. The successful applicant will have experience in working with various agencies and service providers relevant to the client group and will be committed to identifying and breaking down barriers that exist for vulnerable people accessing our service.
You will be an integral member of a fast-paced small team, which relies on relationships and strong time management skills to succeed. Essential qualities include relational skills, as well as the ability to effectively engage with vulnerable individuals, particularly those from Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities.
This position is identified for an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and is intended to constitute a special measure under section 8(1) of the Racial Discrimination Act 1975 (Cth) and section 57 of the Anti-Discrimination Act (NT).
