About Us:

Bidgerdii Community Health Service is an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community controlled primary health care service, operating in the Rockhampton and Central Queensland region for close to 30 years. The organisation is a bulk billing community-controlled health service, managed by a Board of Directors who oversee and manage the strategic directions of the service.

Bidgerdii provides comprehensive primary health and well-being services to the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community in the Rockhampton and surrounding regions. Bidgerdii collaborates with health and well-being partner agencies to enable integrated continuity of care for the community and continue to work to contribute to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health policy and program reform in Queensland.

About the Role:

The Rockhampton Children and Family Centre provide comprehensive, locally responsive and connected services that support child and parent/carer wellbeing, enhance positive child learning and development and build parenting capacity.

BCHS- Rockhampton Children Family Centre are currently seeking a Community Support Worker, for an Immediate start. The position is to be filled on a full-time permanent basis for 38 hours per week. The role will be primarily based at our Rockhampton Children and Family Centre – Cnr Bawden and Charles Street, North Rockhampton QLD 4701, but may require travel to other Bidgerdii work sites, as required.

This is an Indigenous – identified position. Applicants must be of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander decent (pursuant to Section 14 (d) of the Anti-discrimination act. Please indicate within your application if you are of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander decent.

About You:

You are a compassionate, optimistic individual wanting to make a difference in people’s lives especially our Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and also have the following:

  • Certificate III or above in a relevant qualification (e.g. mental health, individual support, community care, community services) or working towards.
  • Previous work experience in a similar Community field would be highly regarded.
  • Support and encourage parents/carers to embed health and wellbeing changes into their family setting
  • Support parents/carers to engage in their child/children’s learning and development
  • Increase parents/carers parental skills as required through in-home support, Centre support, and referrals to partnering organisations
  • The position is responsible for providing services and support to the kinship families within cultural acceptance, cultural appropriate and cultural access framework.
  • Provide assistance with the Children and Family Centre programs and families when required.
  • Provide support to partnering organisations that are responsible for addressing the needs of identified families in relation to family health, wellbeing, development, and lifestyle checks.
  • Provide assistance as required to the outreach services of appropriate activities/programs that are relevant to the findings of family’s, health, wellbeing and lifestyle checks and child development checks.
  • Assist with the continuum of care to kinship families through follow up by phone calls, letters, home visits, family caring and sharing, commensurate with the employee’s skill level.
  • Provide assistance, as required, in relation to the case management of families in accessing allied health, parenting support, child development support, and education support.

Practical Requirements:

  • Current C Class Drivers Licence (QLD) – essential
  • Immunisation requirements – It is a condition of employment for this role for the employee to be, and remain, vaccinated against the following vaccine preventable diseases: measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, hepatitis B, hepatitis A, COVID19 and pertussis (whooping cough) during their employment
  • Current CPR and First Aid Certificate or willing to obtain
  • In line with the legislation changes (no card, no start policy) all successful candidates must hold a current Blue Card (Working with Children and young people) prior to commencement.
  • Satisfactory Police Check
