About the Department
Monash Newborn provides neonatal services to support nearly 12000 births per year and is responsible for the provision of neonatal services for Monash Health across four hospitals (Clayton, Dandenong, Casey and Sandringham). The four neonatal units function together as a single integrated service, with a hierarchy of complexity ranging from Level 3 to 6b neonatal services (Victorian Capability frameworks for maternity and newborn services). The neonatal intensive care unit located in Monash Children’s Hospital, Clayton, is a 60-bed Level 6b neonatal service, and provides the full breadth of medical and surgical care of the newborn, except for ECMO and cardiac surgery, which is undertaken at the Royal Children’s Hospital.
About the Role
Support and assist the Director Monash Newborn Clayton in the provision of a high quality neonatal service, consistent with Monash Health values.
  • Provide clinical leadership in patient care to ensure we achieve excellent care and timely communication with family and other care providers.
  • Provide supervision of trainee doctors, neonatal nurse practitioners and medical students and support open communication, including escalation of clinical and non-clinical matters.
  • Be available to medical, nursing and midwifery, and allied health colleagues for consultation and liaison regarding patient care and non-clinical matters.
  • Be immediately available for urgent consultation and assistance in resuscitation and subsequent management of critically ill or injured patients.
  • Support the maintenance of a high-quality multidisciplinary team, with open communication, collaborative working relationships and professional behaviours at all times.
  • Undertake academic, research, education, training & supervision (both undergraduate and postgraduate) roles in Monash Newborn, Monash Health.
  • Actively participate in local processes to ensure that patients receive high quality services and continuity of care, and that high quality clinical standards, clinical outcomes, risk management approaches and accreditation requirements are achieved.
  • Contribute to the professional and corporate life of Monash Health by participation in appropriate committees and fora.

What you need:
Medical Specialist/Consultant (Senior Medical staff):
  • A medical qualification from a registered tertiary institution and Registration with the Medical Board of Australia (Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency) with a current annual practicing certificate is essential.
  • Fellowship or membership of the appropriate College or Association within Australia as recognised by the Australian Medical Council (AMC) including maintenance of CPD and good standing as required by AHPRA for the maintenance of Specialist Registration.
  • All applicants must be awarded Scope of Clinical Practice by the Monash Health Credentialing committee. Information presented for application will be presented to the committee during the selection process, and all appointments are subject to maintenance of SoP within the clinical services capability framework in the facilities in which clinical work is to be undertaken. This process must be completed prior to offer of employment.
  • Appointment to this position requires proof of qualification and if applicable registration or membership with the appropriate registration authority or association. Certified copies of the required information must be provided to the appropriate supervisor/manager, prior to the commencement of clinical duties.

  • Current Drivers Licence
  • As we support a culture of safety through employee immunisation, there must be documentation provided confirming completed immunisation on employment at Monash Health
  • Current and satisfactory Police Check (must also comply with Aged Care Act 1997 Accountability Amendment Principles 2012 if working in Aged Care setting)
  • Current and satisfactory Employee Working with Children Check.
  • Applicants who are new to Monash Health will be required to enter into an Employment Agreement before commencement
