Are you a motivated individual who works well in a team and thrives in a fast-paced environment? Then the Non-Government School Regulation Directorate needs you!
We are seeking to establish a pool of Consultant Support Officers for fixed term, full-time vacancies which may arise during 2024 and up to the end of April 2026. Appointments can be made from the pool at any time for commencements within 2024, up to the end of April 2026.
Professional Benefits
Working for the Department of Education attracts a range of attractive benefits including:

  • Great work/life balance with 37.5 hour working week as a standard and flexible working hours for most roles.
  • Leave options including purchase leave, deferred leave and long service leave after seven years.
  • Flexibility to work at home and in the office for most roles.
  • Stable work, job security, fair remuneration, superannuation contributions to a provider of your choice and salary packaging options.
  • A collaborative team environment with opportunities for professional development, acting, shadowing and mentoring.
The Role and our Branch
We are a small team engaging directly with the Catholic and independent non-government school sector about regulation of non-government schools, international education and community-based course providers. Our regulatory responsibilities include assessment of applications for entirely new schools, renewal of registration of existing schools and the establishment of new campuses. In undertaking our role we have a strong focus on child safety and standard of education in schools.
The team also assesses applications for compulsory-aged students seeking exemptions from attending school and responds to the ongoing obligations of non-government schools including monitoring school responses to reportable incidents and changes of governing body member notifications. Executive support is also provided to the Minister for Education’s Non-Government School Planning Advisory Panel, a panel that provides advice to the Minister on matters related to establishing new schools and making significant changes to existing schools.
Further detail about us can be found here:
We encourage all applicants with diverse professional experiences to apply.
We are seeking individuals who are enthusiastic self-starters, eager to learn and able to take on challenges in a customer focussed regulatory environment. Further professional development and mentoring in regulatory practice, if required, will be available to those seeking to transition to this rewarding career opportunity. As you will be working within a team environment and liaising with schools and key stakeholders, strong interpersonal and communication skills are important attributes.
Cultural Diversity
The Department is an equal opportunity employer and encourages people with disability, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and persons from culturally diverse backgrounds to apply.
Your written application will be assessed against the following Selection Criteria: * Demonstrated relevant interpersonal and communication skills including the ability to consult, collaborate and liaise effectively with senior managers, schools, officers from other agencies and members of the public.
  • Demonstrated written communication skills, including the ability to prepare preliminary reports, correspondence, minutes and briefing notes and clearly explain information and issues.
  • Demonstrated skills in research, planning and analysis and the ability to contribute to the development of quality systems and processes.
Shortlisted applicants will have their skills and experiences in relation to the remaining selection criteria assessed in the further stages of the recruitment process. Remaining selection criteria can be found on the attached Job Description Form (JDF).
For a full outline of the role responsibilities and selection criteria, please refer to the JDF.
