The Content Lead is an integral part of the editorial team at Canstar, Australia’s biggest financial comparison site. We see this role as a ‘trusted content expert’, producing high quality finance content our readers are searching for, as well as providing sub-editing support to our team of writers to ensure our content is accurate, clear and provides consumers with a full picture.We are looking for a highly talented, energetic and positive writer and sub-editor who can maintain strong focus on our content targets while also working seamlessly with a close-knit and supportive team.The role supports the Editor-in-Chief in delivering key elements of our content strategy that contribute to the company’s traffic and revenue targets.
Key Responsibilities
Content Creation and Editing
– Writing a wide range of compelling and topical content that puts a fresh spin on finance and breaks down complex financial concepts,with a focus on SEO-friendly ‘explainer’ articles. News stories, topical/sharable content and email newsletter articles will also be a focus at times.
– Providing editing support to our team of journalists with an eye on tone of voice, flow, journalistic standards, compliance matters, spelling and grammar as well as fact checking.
– Working directly with the Editor-in Chief, Deputy Editor and the SEO team to pitch topical content ideas based on the news cycle as well as search trends.
Analytics
– Help keep track of article performance by way of both traffic and revenue by regularly checking our internal dashboards and highlighting trends, successes and possible opportunities to the wider team.
– Relationship building
– Help develop our external relationships with potential news sources and invite contributors to support Canstar’s contributor strategy and boost the quality of our content.
– Key Internal RelationshipsThe Content Lead is a pivotal position within the editorial team. Not only working closely with the Editor-in-Chief, our Deputy
Editor, journalists and content producers, this role will work most closely with our Research team, to ensure our data and insights are positioned correctly;
Corporate Affairs, to help ensure any of our content with media appeal is fully leveraged;
Required Skills & Experience
– 6+ years journalism experience, with a background in digital publishing
– Understanding of, or interest in, SEO, as you will work closely with our SEO team
– A nose for trending, topical stories, a natural storyteller and possessing excellent judgment
– Experience in finance preferred, and an interest in finance is essential
– A journalism or communications degree is essential
– Excellent writing and editing skills, particularly when it comes to checking facts, figures and quotes
– A working knowledge of written and visual copyright laws
– Experience working with a content management system (ideally WordPress)
– Demonstrated ability to write high-quality content quickly, and to turn insights or data into a story that will grab the attention of a reader
– Experience adhering to a distinct and premium tone and style and ability to quickly grasp compliance guidelines
– A passion for new media, particularly search trends
– Highly comfortable with numerical or financial concepts
– An interest working in a fast-paced commercial environment
