About Us

Queensland Hydro is a publicly owned entity established by the Queensland Government to design, deliver, operate, and maintain long duration pumped hydro energy storage assets that will be the cornerstone for the transformation of the state’s energy system.

The organisation will drive delivery of world-class pumped hydro assets to provide the long-term storage and reliability needed to power Queensland’s clean energy future. The organisation will play a critical role in assisting the Queensland Government to meet its renewable energy targets and net zero emissions by 2050, supporting the shift in the Australian economy to a decarbonised energy system.


The Role

The Local Content Lead will drive our efforts in engaging with external stakeholders and ensuring Local Content and social procurement outcomes align with our values and commitments. The role plays a crucial role in enhancing Queensland Hydro’s reputation and relationships with industry, government, industry associations and professional bodies, regulatory bodies, and other relevant stakeholders. You will collaborate across the business to integrate Local Content and social procurement considerations into business processes and decision-making.


Key accountabilities in this role include:

  • Contributing to the development and delivery of the Jobs, Skills and Industry Participation Strategy and supporting plans, policies, and associated initiatives across Queensland Hydro to align with company values and objectives as well as ensuring industry best practice.
  • Contributing to the decision-making and ensuring reporting on key Local Content metrics identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Leading the gathering, analysis and utilisation of supply market intelligence and development and provision of supplier capability building initiatives.
  • Engaging and communicating with potential Local, Queensland, Australian and International contractors, suppliers, and manufacturers (using various engagement and communication medium) to raise their awareness of opportunities to supply goods and services to our projects and explain the pre-qualification requirements and bid processes.
  • Leading and monitoring Local Content and social procurement activities undertaken by Queensland Hydro and its delivery partners to ensure alignment with objectives and statutory requirements.
  • Preparing regular reports on Local Content and social procurement activities for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Representing the Commercial team in cross-functional team meetings.
  • Providing independent advice and deliverables, engaging collaboratively with other parts of the team and organisation in support of delivering on the key accountabilities.


About you

When applying for this position, you will ideally possess:

  • Degree level qualifications in Business, Commerce, Management, or equivalent qualification combined with significant experience in a Local Content or procurement management role.
  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in the field of Local Content (industry participation), industry engagement, strategic procurement, social and sustainable procurement, supplier capability development, or equivalent.
  • Demonstrable experience in major project contracts and procurement processes.
  • Demonstrable experience working with industry, supplier advocates (specifically the Industry Capability Network, Chambers of Commerce etc.,), government and regulatory bodies, and a working knowledge of local supply markets.
  • Clear and concise oral and written communications skills and the ability to communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrable high standard and proficiency of presentation and report writing skills, and ability to develop content and messaging to engage and persuade a variety of audiences.
  • High level proficiency utilising Microsoft Office products and appropriate engagement tools and systems.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Australian driver’s license (C-class motor vehicle).
