How will I help?You might be working in journalism, corporate Australia or in an agency on content creation. Either way, you are ready to take your creativity and storytelling abilities to the next level, filing content for our external news site, Westpac Wire.Ideally you will have experience in finding and writing newsworthy articles for publication, along with expertise in social media content and platforms. We'll need you to produce a steady pipeline of pieces which are relevant to everyday Australians. You'll also play a key role in social media strategy for Westpac Wire. If you can add digital storytelling to the mix, including video and audio, then all the better.You will put to work your journalism skills to deliver news stories and help us grow our audience engagement. This includes elevating Westpac Wire's distribution and engagement, along with keeping the team true to a data driven approach to improve the effectiveness of our online news presence.
Responsibilities- Work alongside the editorial team, bringing your creative eye to deliver news stories for Westpac Wire. Formats of your stories will vary depending on topic and style - whether it's text-based, video interview or an audio-based podcast. Typically, we cover a wide range of story topics, everything from deep dives on the latest tech trends to feature articles about innovative work being done by Westpac customers and people.
- Become our valued “newsroom all-rounder” to drive distribution and engagement, including playing a vital role in:
- Social media & subscriptions: leverage our social media and other distribution channels with a view to improving engagement and driving subscriptions.
- Analytics: Mastery of channel analytics to measure and report and ultimately improve viewership and engagement, including regular advice to the team.
- Become proficient across our suite of production tools, to support story flow in a lean team, including publishing. Option to also expand into our recording studio to support video stories and podcasts.
- With efficiency in mind, drive the ongoing improvement of production workflows.

What do I need?- At least three years journalism or corporate affairs experience.
- Superb written and verbal communication, with an ability to adapt to different communication formats (news stories, features, video bites, social grabs)
- Keen interest in social media, news, current affairs & reputation.
- An ability to work fast and file for deadlines.
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities in a large, complex, dynamic and fast-paced organisation.
- Team player with ability and keenness to work with others to achieve success and an appetite to learn new skills.
- Experience in design and photography valued, but not essential
