About the role
Reporting to the Commercial Manager, the Strategic Contracts Specialist will play a crucial role in contributing to the procurement function and generating value for the Tahmoor business from the engagement of contractors and suppliers. In this role you will be able to add immediate value by providing market insights and analysis to get the right balance of outcomes on cash, profit, risk and spend through the lifecycle of a contract.
Responsibilities include:
- Manage an effective Contract Management system that ensures the company's commercial and legal interests are protected, adhered to and compliant with the company's contracts systems and legal requirements
- Develop strategy documents for category spend as required
- Provide advice and guidance to management related to the correct protocols to initiate contractual agreements
- Ensure goods / services obtained are the best total cost, quality, and availability
- Analyse the procurement expenditure and identify opportunities to reduce costs with suppliers and contractors
- Manage the interface between SIMEC Purchasing and Tahmoor including issuing of initiative status reports
- Assist with tender preparation by providing information, monitor deadlines and check compliance during the tender evaluation process
- Commercially administer contracts from negotiation to preparation to execution to implementation
- Conduct safety reviews on Contractor Health and Safety Systems
About your experience
You will have proven experience in Contracts and tenders along with a high level of attention to detail. A strong communicator that is able to work effectively with a diverse range of stakeholders and able to deliver on strict deadlines.
You will also possess the following:
- Tertiary Qualification in either Commerce, Business or Engineering related disciplines (preferred but not essential) or appropriate industry experience
- Previous experience within the Mining sector or heavy industry
- Extensive experience in the preparation and coordination of Contractual documentation
- Relevant experience in the management and administration of Suppler / Contractor Contracts
- Sound knowledge of contractual and procurement procedures and systems and relevant contract law
- Strong excel skills and experience with SAP or large ERP systems is desirable
- Strong commercial acumen and ability to analyse and translate critical information

Our Tahmoor Colliery in New South Wales, is an underground longwall coal mine with an associated coal preparation plant, producing high quality coking coal for global markets.
