selectability provides and coordinate NDIS supports, aged care services, clinical services and deliver government funded mental wellbeing, carer and youth support programs.

About the role

An exciting opportunity awaits for a Cook to join the team. selectability, a reputable aged care provider is providing supports in the Lower Gulf of North Queensland from late August 2023. These positions offer a chance to work in a supportive and caring environment, making a positive impact on the lives of the older people.

We are seeking a skilled and experienced Cook to join our team at our aged care facilities. The successful candidate will be responsible for preparing and cooking nutritious meals for our older persons and ensuring that all meals are served in a timely manner.

This position requires a strong commitment to enhancing the quality of life for older persons and promoting their independence while respecting the dignity and cultural backgrounds. The Cook collaborates with a multidisciplinary team to deliver comprehensive care services that meet the unique needs and challenges faced by seniors in regional and remote areas.

About you 

To be successful you must: 

  • have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment under pressure whilst maintaining a professional manner
  • prepare, cook, service nutritious meals across breakfast, lunch and dinner for residents and employees, taking into account their dietary requirements and preferences
  • experience menu planning, to ensure nutritional needs are being met
  • knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices
  • ability to follow recipes and instructions
  • have excellent time management skills
  • have a positive attitude 
  • possess clear and effective communication skills 
  • experience working in a team environment 
  • be able to follow policies and procedures at all times 
  • be able to work with culturally and linguistically diverse communities and individuals 

You will also need:

  • certificate III in Commercial Cookery (highly desirable) or the equivalent.
  • food hygiene/ Food Handlers Certificate (highly desirable) 
  • previous experience working in FIFO hospitality industry (desirable)
  • current Flu vaccination (highly desirable)
  • current Covid vaccination (highly desirable)
  • a current minimum P1 "C" class Queensland driver’s licence 
  • ability to work in regional and remote areas on a FIFO roster, flexible to work across a 24/7 roster
  • a current yellow card exemption or an NDIS Worker Screening Clearance (or the ability to obtain prior to commencement)
  • NDIS Worker Orientation Module 'Quality, Safety & You' completion certificate (visit https://training.ndiscommission.gov.au to access this free module). at completion of the course, you will be provided with a certificate of completion which you can forward to **********@selectability.com.au
