We are offering the opportunity to join the Council in the key permanent role of Coordinator, Waste Management. Sitting within the Environment and Planning Branch, you will Coordinate and integrate Council's Waste Management Program and Operations in accordance with legislative requirements, Council Policies and in line with Council’s strategic corporate goals and other corporate initiatives. On a daily basis, you will undertake a wide variety of duties such as:
- Coordinate the waste and recycling collection services, waste disposal and transfer facilities and ensure facilities and services comply with legislative requirement and the Environmental Authority conditions.
- Supervise, monitor, and review Council’s Waste Management contracts, service agreements and Environmental Authority conditions, and draft Waste Reports to Council on a range of waste related subjects on an as needed basis.
- Develop, design, implement and provide analysis and reports on Waste Management strategies for the region, and implement/ review the Council’s Strategic Waste Management Plan.
- Undertake Waste Management projects and initiatives such as converting existing landfills to transfer stations through planning, construction, and operational stages, and coordinating the implementation and management of the State Waste Levy responsibility for the region.
- Provide advice on Waste Management and resource recovery operations, monitoring outcomes against operational standards and compliance with legislation and waste disposal practice and plant management.
- Develop, document and review Waste Management practices, procedures, policies, and systems, including being responsible for Waste Services Assets, Asset Register, Asset Management Plan, Asset Improvement Plan and Asset Risk Management Planning.
- Communicate Council’s requirements and standards, including Workplace Health and Safety requirements, to the Waste Services Team members and each contractor that may undertake activities at Council waste facilities from time to time and monitor compliance therewith.
- Prioritise, investigate, respond to customer requests, and be responsible for managing (and implementing programs/initiatives to address) littering and illegal dumping in the region.

- Tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline such as Environmental Health, Sustainability or Waste Management or comparable extensive experience.
- Demonstrated significant experience in Waste Management supervision and coordination, including waste collection and disposal.
- Demonstrated comprehensive knowledge of legislation and service standard requirements in the field of Waste Management.
- Demonstrated supervisory and coordination skills, including the ability to foster teamwork, deliver projects, and prepare, implement, and monitor financial budgets.
- Well-developed oral and written communication and negotiation skills as well as demonstrated research and analytical skills.
