The Opportunity:
An excellent career opportunity exists for a commercial lawyer to join our collegiate in-house legal, compliance and risk team. You will advise on a variety of commercial contracts, disputes and regulatory issues affecting the day-to-day operations of the company and have access to experienced lawyers who are keen to mentor you and develop your knowledge of the business.
You will be exposed to various aspects of the company's operations, with a primary focus on contract drafting and negotiation. This role can be based at our facilities in Wacol, Brisbane or Altona North, Melbourne and interested parties in either location are encouraged to apply.
Key duties and responsibilities of the position will include:
- Review, assess and provide advice to sales, operations and department managers regarding legal risks associated with contracts, tenders and pre-contractual documentation.
- Educate and train business operators on the application of regulatory requirements and best practice methodologies in managing legal and compliance risks.
- Identify legal and compliance risks in day-to-day business to develop and implement suitable risk mitigation strategies.
- Provide legal advice on disputes and litigation matters, including management of external counsel and costs in externally briefed matters.
- Provide general legal support to the business.
To be successful in this role, it is essential that you have a Bachelor of Laws Degree and hold a valid practising certificate issued within a State or Territory of Australia. You will possess 4-6 years post admission experience as a solicitor gained with a reputable law firm or in-house team.
You will have a proven ability to work collaboratively in a team, have a strong commitment to customer service, excellent attention to detail, and clear and concise communication skills.
The successful applicant should also possess the following skills and attributes:
- Experience in contract drafting, contract reviews, contract negotiations, advising on general legal issues and regulatory requirements.
- Ability to interpret legal issues/advice and contract terms and communicate them clearly and succinctly to business operators.
- Ability to research complex legal issues involving legislative or case law interpretation.
- Well developed interpersonal and negotiation skills. A strong commitment to providing excellent customer service.
- Proactive and self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously.
