Barnardos are looking for a Counsellor for a part time 21hrs/week permanent position in the Children, Youth and Family Service based in Auburn, 2144
The Counsellor will be responsible for;
- Provision of one-to-one, family or group counselling while using a wide range of modalities to suit the specific needs of our clients.
- Deliver counselling services to children, young people, and families in accordance with Barnardos policies, procedures, and practice guidelines.
- Assisting clients who access the Counselling Program with information/advice, and or referral to internal or external services.
- Conducting initial assessment interviews with young people and their families.
- Monitoring child protection concerns, consult, and act in accordance with the NSW Children and Young Person’s (Care and Protection) Act, Mandatory Reporter Guide and Barnardos Australia “Child safety and wellbeing” Policy.
- Completing assessment and case planning for clients
- Organising workshops and educational programs for Children, Teenagers, and their Parents/Carers.
About You
As a Counsellor, you will ideally have;
- Tertiary degree level qualification in Counselling, Psychology, Community Services, Social Welfare, or related discipline.
- Strong understanding of care and protection legislation and practice regarding early intervention and prevention, and community development-based alternatives to supporting vulnerable families and preventing children entering OOHC.
- Sound knowledge of dynamics of sexual assault, domestic and family violence.
- Working knowledge of engaging with individuals, children, young people, and families in counselling.
- Demonstrated experience in working with families with multiple, complex needs and that may be experiencing acute crisis.
- Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of Child Protection Legislation, Practice, and requirements within the New South Wales Child Protection System.

Salary: Base $71,136 to $87,961 pro rata per annum plus leave loading plus superannuation. Packaging available to receive $15,860 of your salary tax free. Motor vehicle packaging available on selected roles.
To be considered for roles with Barnardos you will need to have (or be willing to have conducted) a National Police Clearance and current Working with Children check Clearance (or APP number) and for the ACT a Drivers History Check, Working with Vulnerable People Card and CYPS Check.
