Counsellor

Every step of the journey, right from initial diagnosis of a chronic neurological condition to palliative care, our highly trained and experienced therapists are there to help our clients, their families and carers alike, explore their thoughts, feelings, issues and anxieties.  

Using evidence based therapeutic services, we provide a mixture of both individual and group interventions ranging from mindfulness and meditation, art therapy and journaling, through to therapeutic peer groups and psychoeducation (including stress reduction and building resilience).

Based in Bunbury, but willing to travel to Vasse and Wilson, you will have access to a pool car.  Access to your own vehicle will be required when the pool car is unavailable.

A Typical Day at MSWA

• Each day may bring new experiences, but there are several key responsibilities and accountabilities:
• Deliver a client centred service to clients, their families and carers.
• Participate in team meetings, working parties, reference groups, seminars and special events.
• Explore innovative ways to add value to existing services.
• Facilitate client support, carer support and education groups.
• Complete progress reports and enter statistics and information accurately on the database.
• Maintain effective and confidential case notes and making referrals when necessary.
• Contribute to strategic planning and review.

Essential Requirements:

• NDIS Worker Screening Clearance, or the willingness to obtain.
• Current “A” Class Driver’s Licence.
• Minimum degree counselling or psychology qualification, social work or equivalent.
• Professional Membership appropriate to qualification.
• Experience in counselling assessment and intervention, utilising a broad range of methods that best enable desired outcomes.
• Demonstrated understanding of the effects of chronic progressive condition on a person and their family.
• Ability to manage case load and reach departments KPIs.
• Experience using computer packages for data entry and report writing.
• Basic understanding of funding including Aged care packages and NDIS.
• Analytical skills for programme planning and evaluation.
