About the role:

The Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) Program Mentor role is positioned in the CVE Unit of the Capability Division, Counter Terrorism Command. Reporting to a Sergeant, you will be responsible for the development of engagement plans and delivery of mentor services in close collaboration with CVE Unit Case Managers. As a CVE Program Mentor you will be required to work collaboratively and liaise with a variety of internal and external stakeholders to ensure service delivery is maintained. The CVE Program Mentor position supports Victoria Police's efforts to counter Ideologically Motivated Violent Extremism (IMVE). The CVE Program Mentor position is housed within the CVE Unit, which aims to reduce the risk of individuals becoming or remaining violent extremists and to address the social impacts of Violent Extremism via:

  • Establishment of a coordinated intervention structure that can best identify and support individuals deemed at risk of radicalisation to Violent Extremism,
  • Building the resilience of communities to Violent Extremism,
  • Supporting the diversion of individuals at risk of becoming violent extremists when possible,
  • Rehabilitating and reintegrating violent extremists when possible,
  • Enhancing the capacity of Government and non-Government agencies to support and deliver CVE identification and intervention activities,
  • Developing and maintaining highly coordinated prevention, preparedness and response arrangements in relation to threats and acts of terrorism in Victoria, and
  • Developing programs to prevent terrorism and counter Violent Extremism in Victoria and lead Victoria Police's agenda and participation in national and international counter terrorism forums.

Your duties will include:

  • Planning and delivery of pro-social mentoring to CVE Program clients in the community, in the effort to build client resilience and support disengagement from Violent Extremism.
  • Proactive identification and engagement with relevant external stakeholders in the delivery of CVE Program mentor services.
  • Collaboration with CVE Unit Case Managers, CVE Unit Sergeants, CVE Unit Psychologist and other senior team members to deliver services in alignment with established client intervention plans.
  • Coordination and development of stakeholder networks to support of the delivery of CVE Program intervention services.
  • Preparation of case notes, progress reports other written records regarding CVE Program clients in alignment with CVE Unit requirements.
  • Contribution to and/or management of project work in close collaboration with CVE Unit team members.
  • Contribution to relevant policy work when required, including in the development of strategies to address complex issues.
  • Engagement with community organisations and other external stakeholders to build awareness of CVE Program services.
  • Undertaking intrastate travel when required in the delivery of mentor services to CVE Program clients.
  • Undertaking interstate travel when required to deliver of projects, presentations and/other related CVE activities.

  • Demonstrated ability to work constructively and achieve positive outcomes with complex clients/stakeholders.

Requirements and relevant information:

  • One (1) x fixed term full-time/ part time negotiable positions available to 30 June 2025.
  • This position is located at Victoria Police Centre, 311 Spencer Street, Docklands.
  • This position requires shift work as indicated in the Position Description (as attached to the advertisement).
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo National Security Vetting, achieve and maintain a security classification as determined by the Department Head. To achieve this, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
  • The successful applicant will be required to undergo pre-employment checks which may include fingerprint checks and misconduct screening.
