About the role
The role is responsible for leading a dedicated team working to provide a pleasing and well-maintained environment for residents, visitors and stakeholders, as well as creating high quality, and sustainable Turf Maintenance that meet the current and future needs of our community.
In this role you will:
Supervise the operations of the Turf Maintenance Team
Assist in preparing and monitoring the progress of rosters and allocated maintenance schedules.
Organise other staff and supervise their work when working as part of a team.
Foster a positive team culture and be a role model the demonstration of the Councils' organisational values
Carry out Turf Maintenance operations requiring a high level of skill and judgment.
Ensure all OH & S/Risk Management requirements and specific staff's training needs are met.
Other responsibilities include/ Day to day duties include but not limited to:
Conduct regular perception and condition audits on Parks.
Assist to direct the operation of manual and mechanical plant and equipment to ensure optimum utilisation and all relevant safety guidelines are followed at all times.
Assist the Team Leader Turf & Streetscape Maintenance in directing work teams to maintain Turf Maintenance operations in parks and open spaces to specified standards in the areas of mowing, weed control, cleaning, trimming and other associated park maintenance functions.
Present timesheets and monitor Rostered Day Off entitlements for staff within the unit.
About you
You are a passionate and motivated individual with key leadership abilities and qualities including supervising and communicating with staff. You are willing to identify and recommend improvements and/or modifications to work processes to foster a continuous improvement mindset in your team and improve the quality of open space maintenance throughout your area of responsibility.
The following is also required:
Trade Certificate in Turf, Horticulture or Landscape Management or substantial on-the-job experience in the parks/landscaping maintenance field
Experience in supervising and communicating with staff.
Ability to carry out a wide range of parks and gardens activities and to carry out emergency control procedures relating to parks and gardens.
Experience in communicating, liaising and interacting with the general public.
Experience in utilisation of parks/landscaping related asset management systems.
Current Victorian car licence
