Cross Border Commissioner

The Department of the Premier and Cabinet (DPC) is the lead agency in South Australia developing policy and delivering programs to realise the government's vision for South Australia. The department has a strategic vision for the South Australian economy that is fit for the future, smart, sustainable, and inclusive, whilst improving the wellbeing of all South Australians.

Reporting into the Chief Executive of the Department of Premier and Cabinet and with Ministerial responsibility of the Premier of South Australia, the Cross Boarder Commissioner will be responsible for successfully leading the facilitation of improved outcomes for South Australian people and businesses in Cross Border communities.

The Commissioner will play a prominent role as a voice for Cross Border regions, advocating for communities, businesses and individuals through driving collaboration between state governments to reduce barriers to accessing key services and increase economic opportunities for South Australian businesses and workers that live, work and operate in Cross Border regions.

The successful incumbent will reside in or be willing to relocate to a Cross Border location for this opportunity and will embrace the advantages of working and living amongst a strong sense of community, building meaningful business connections and professional networks both in region and with interstate neighbours.

The Commissioner is responsible for providing strategic leadership across key Cross Border issues through:

• Forging key partnerships and facilitating collaboration across jurisdictions, Inter and intra government agencies, key business and community stakeholders with an explicit focus on achieving outcomes.
• Publicly engaging with businesses, community members and stakeholders to identify key cross-border issues affecting South Australians, advising the Government and working across agencies to address those issues.
• Working strategically with all tiers of government and industry sectors to ensure the needs of Cross Border communities are considered in the development and implementation of key policy, procedures and legislation.
• Facilitating better access to services for Cross Border communities by working with other jurisdictions and service providers to improve planning and access to a services spanning across the education, justice, health and community services sectors.
• Identifying key barriers for economic development and advocating to support jobs growth and labour mobility in border regions.

Key requirements:

• Positioned in or willing to relocate to a Cross Border community.
• Demonstrated experience and understanding with Cross Border issues.
• Proven ability to engage with people from a wide variety of backgrounds.
• Demonstrated high level skills in external and internal communications.
• Proven experience managing and identifying risk, governance, and due diligence processes.
