THE ROLE
The Cultural Heritage Site Worker is to take part in Cultural Heritage Site work activities on Gunditjmara country. This site work may be requested by any Sponsor who is wanting to start project or development if activities are:
- A high impact activity.
- Falls in whole or in part within an area of Cultural Heritage sensitivity.
- Are considered to have significant ground disturbance.
The Cultural Heritage Site Worker’s role will be responsible for assisting in the assessment of Aboriginal Cultural Heritage within the activity area through field work such as pedestrian survey, excavate, identification of cultural places and objects of significance.
The Site Workers are also responsible for working collaboratively with the Gunditjmara people to identify and gather intangible Cultural Heritage.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
A primary focus of the role will be to complete field work activities, assessing whether any cultural significance is on the site in which the proposed project or development is to occur. You will also be required to work in collaboration with other organisations and partners. These may include, but not limited to Cultural Heritage (Archaeologist) and Ecology consultants.
KEY SELECTION CRITERIA
The key selection criteria specified below outline the capabilities required for the position.
Specialist/Technical Expertise:
- An awareness and understanding of historic and current issues affecting Gunditjmara people and country.
- An understanding of the Gunditj Mirring Traditional Owners Aboriginal Corporation, its operations and activities.
Desirable Skills/Qualifications:
- Certificate IV Aboriginal Cultural Heritage Management
- Has equipment and mapping software skills.

- This is an identified position - successful applicants must be able to provide proof that they are of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islanders descent; identify as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander; and are accepted by their community as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
- Must have a Victorian Drivers Licence
- Ability to obtain a positive National Police and Working With Children Check
