We are currently seeking an experienced Scientist to lead our Cytology Department at our Osborne Park Laboratory. This scientist reports to the Laboratory Manager and the Cytopathologist- in-charge.
The main focus of this position is to ensure the efficient operation of the Cytology Department including reporting and overseeing the processing of cervical cytology screening, non-gynaecological samples such as fine needle aspirations and general cytology samples. This includes the supervision of all non-medical staff within the department, as well as maintenance and development of reporting and quality systems.
The successful applicant will have:
- A degree in Medical Laboratory Science or a science degree with subjects relevant to the field of pathology, or an overseas qualifications which has been assessed by AIMS as being equivalent
- A CTASC qualification which includes a gynaecological cytology component
- Extensive experience working within the field of diagnostic cytology
- Proven experience and knowledge in quality management systems and relevant Cytology standards, including the CST guidelines
- Strong, proven interpersonal, communication and leadership skills. This includes demonstrated ability to maintain and build relationships within and across teams (department staff, senior management, pathologists and other departmental seniors)
- The ability to interact and communicate well with all referring clinicians
- A commitment to continuing education and maintenance of high professional standards
- A commitment to training and development of existing and new staff
- A commitment to Sonic core values and an understanding of workplace health and safety issues relating to Cytology
- An ability to implement and maintain safe standards and work practices in the department
