A fantastic opportunity has arisen to work at the Derby Aboriginal Short Stay Accommodation (DASSA) facility located in Derby WA for an Aboriginal Support Worker. You will be required to engage with guests staying at DASSA for the purpose of providing guests with information and advice of the services available in Derby WA; this information will often include specialist supports that will meet identified needs of a guest who may not have access to supports in the communities they live in.
Duties and responsibilitiesContinuously provide a culturally secure and appropriate service for Aboriginal guests and their families staying at DASSA
- Support and guide guests through their DASSA experience
- Offer practical assistance and engage with all guests to ensure that any support needs are identified
- Offer information and referrals to mainstream and specialist services to enable individuals, families and/or couples who may be accompanied by children to access identified supports
- Organize educational and recreational activities for children not at school
- Positively contribute to the DASSA teams understanding of delivering culturally appropriate services
- Abide by relevant professional ethics, client confidentiality and relevant service and organisational policies and procedures
- Create and update client data files and record daily activities (case notes) of any social, emotional and physical well-being services that guests access
- Other duties as directed.
Essential:
- Experience in supporting people to access services that target social, emotional and physical well-being
- Experience working and engaging with people from a range of language groups
- Demonstrated experience in working with people who may have a complexity of needs
- Experience with developing and maintaining professional networks and relationships
- Effective communication and people engagement skills and the ability to develop good relationships including those with complex needs
- Good computer and data entry skills
- Ability to work as a team member.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- A ‘National Police Check Clearance.’ (less than 3 months old)
- A current ‘Working with Children Check Clearance.’
- A current Western Australian ‘C’ class motor vehicle driver’s license.
- Must be Covid-19 vaccinated.
Desirable but not necessary for the right candidate - you will be offered on the job training.
- Relevant working experience and/or qualifications in one of the following fields: Community Services; Justice, Community Development or Housing
- Possess a qualifications ranging from Certificate iv, Diploma or a Degree in Social Work or Community Services
