I am a young man in my late 20’s seeking capable and motivated Support Workers to support me through my transition to living independently in my own home. I am nonverbal and can communicate with some key sign words.
My family and I are working hard to ensure my new home is suitable to my needs. Down the track, I will need an amazing team around me to support me on a 24-hour basis. Right now, I am hoping to engage in hourly support so I can get to know the new people coming into my life at my pace. I am an active and fit individual, who works three days a week and plays sport in a local sporting team, I go to the gym twice a week, and like to swim often.
I enjoy trying different things and have had great fun at cable wave skiing and zip lining, among other activities. If you love adventure and seek to explore the fun things in life, then we will get along well. To relax, I enjoy gardening, jigsaw puzzles, and watching movies.
My family are the most important people in my life, and you will work alongside them and my coordinator of support to ensure I am receiving the appropriate support I need to live as independently as possible. When given the flexibility of a few good choices, I am very able to make my own decisions. My transition into my home is integral to maintaining and exploring my independence.
This will be quite the journey for me, and to make sure it will be sustainable, I need to connect and engage with support slowly. Ideally, I seek to find supporters who can engage hourly until the final stage of my transition is completed.
Once fully moved in, I will require 24-hour shifts to ensure my routines are stable and I enjoy and feel comfortable with my new life journey.
