About the role
Applied Horticultural Research is seeking a Data Analyst to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in analysing and interpreting complex data sets to support our research projects and provide actionable insights for advancing horticultural practices. This position requires a detail-oriented professional with a strong background in data analysis, statistical methods, and presenting data.
Location: Sydney preferred, although other locations considered
Position type: full-time
Key Responsibilities
Data Collection and Management:
- Collect, organize, and maintain large datasets from various sources including tree crop field trials, sensors, laboratory experiments, and external databases.
- Ensure data integrity and accuracy through rigorous quality control processes.
Data Analysis and Interpretation:
- Analyse data using statistical methods and software to identify trends, patterns, and correlations.
- Develop and implement data models and algorithms to support research objectives.
Reporting and Communication:
- Prepare detailed reports, visualizations, and presentations to communicate findings to stakeholders.
- Collaborate with researchers and scientists to translate data insights into practical recommendations and solutions.
Software and Tools:
- Utilize data analysis tools and software such as R, Python, SQL, and Excel for data manipulation and analysis.
- Develop and maintain dashboards and automated reporting systems, such as Power BI.
Research Support:
- Assist in the design and execution of experiments and field trials, including data collection protocols and statistical analysis plans.
- Stay up to date with the latest developments in data analysis techniques and horticultural research
Qualifications and Experience
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Agricultural/Horticultural Science, or a related field. A Master’s degree is preferred.
Experience:
- Proven experience (3+ years) in data analysis, preferably in an agricultural or horticultural research setting.
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI or Tableau)
Skills:
- Strong proficiency in statistical analysis and data modelling.
- Proficient in database management.
- Ability to interpret complex data and provide clear, concise insights.
- Strong communication and presentation skills.
- Attention to detail and strong problem-solving abilities.
- Skills in R, Python or SQL are a plus
Working rights:
