What you’ll be doing

The objective of the Data Management Lead role is to champion innovation, industry best practice, solutions, and technologies, and have superior skills in Data Management working with multiple sources to provide value for Business consumers. The role requires effective relationship management across numerous internal and external stakeholders and service providers, ensuring alignment across various business drivers and objectives.

• Responsible for leading, uplifting and embedding capabilities around governance, data analysis, data modelling to help inform the build out of our modern Data Platform .
• Engages with business to define data models to meet business requirements
• Develops data models that are scalable and deliver business benefits to the use case and can be extended for the enterprise inclusive of AI, ML, Data science
• Responsible for developing, physical and logical data models for the data platform that are aligned to the Enterprise Data Model
• Champions communication with business in regards to developments, benefits and opportunities on the data platform
• Responsible for capability uplift of data analysts within data platforms team to ensure consistent practices that will support the development and testing of data products
• Responsible for data governance and data quality management on the data platform
• Work with Information Security and Privacy team to ensure the data platform is compliant with VA Policies and standards
• Reviews impact assessments and supports estimates
• Support the technical team with design or decision engagement with business to clarify expectations and approach
• Provide direct leadership to Data Analysts within the Data Platforms team
• Provide thought leadership across the data domains
• Seek opportunities for improvements and champion changes to technology, including automation on the data platform

You’ll be great in this role if you…

• Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate complex thoughts and ideas clearly
• Strong work ethic and ability to lead by example
• Experience in embedding Data Management practices within a data platform
• Experience working in Data Management within an enterprise context and working in a complex data environment
• Experience with data streaming, real-time data solutions, and enabling real-time decisions
• Working knowledge of Databricks, DBT, and Kafka
• Ability to work with differing stakeholders including external vendors and an excellent team player
• Ability to influence team members who are not direct reports to achieve outcomes
• Applied knowledge of Data Management fundamentals and principles
• Familiarity with privacy laws, data protection, and information security regulations, and frameworks, such as GDPR, and APRA
