How will I help?

As a Data & Reporting Analyst, you will join the Intel Analytics and AML Reporting team working on a range of strategic pieces of work where you will experience a constant stream of interesting data problems that have tangible impacts on the group and it's customers.

You will be responsible for designing, testing, and deploying rules and machine learning models to identify and mitigate fraudulent activity occurring using Westpac Group products.

The role will require you to analyse past data as well as new trends in suspicious customer activity to mitigate such risks using the power of code and critical thinking.

Key Accountabilities

  • Analyse and interrogate data to support and create fraud detection of money muling and crime syndicates.
  • Identify emerging fraud trends.
  • Make continual improvements to detection system rules.
  • Maintain and create internal automated reporting through dashboard and website creation.
  • Become an expert in payment systems and processes.

What do I need?

  • Tertiary Qualification in relevant disciplines such as Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science or Econometrics etc.
  • Have some technical knowledge in SQL/Python/R or other programming languages used to interrogate and manipulate large data sets and fit statistical models.
  • Stakeholder management skills with ability to engage with and influence non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience or keen interest in playing games such as strategy board games or chess is advantageous as these display similar thought processes to fraud detection.
