Do work that matters
As a Data Scientist within the Digital and Customer Chapter Area, you will assist in the development and management of models supporting the user experience in our digital channel. This role involves designing clever data science solutions that can be integrated in one of the best banking App in Australia reaching millions of customers every day.
You will work closely with key stakeholders and cross-functional teams within Digital and Decision Science to ensure our customers can fully benefit from and feel rewarded by banking with us. You will come with a strong business acumen along with demonstrable experience in using statistics and machine learning to predict the next best thing we can do for our customers.
You will be part of a high-performing team of Data Scientists that concentrates on data models to solve data science problems. Using the latest technology to solve our customers’ most complex problems, you will contribute to the development and testing of new ideas and make use of one of the biggest transaction database in Australia.

The Chief Data and Analytics Office (CDAO) team is responsible for leading the delivery of world-class data, analytics and technology capabilities to improve the financial well-being of our customers and communities. The Decision Science Digital and Customer Team is part of the Data and Decision Science team within the (CDAO) which is part of the Technology Unit.
We focus on developing advanced Machine Learning and AI capabilities at CBA, working closely with business teams and analytics communities across the bank. We use data, ML and AI to enhance the financial wellbeing of our customers and communities, create next generation experience with deep insights, improve productivity and reduce risk.
As a community, our Data Scientists have diverse backgrounds and industry experience, with state-of-the-art machine learning research and development expertise, and in-depth knowledge of structured and unstructured data in the Bank. We are open-minded, curious and passionate about problem solving and data driven innovation at scale. We collaborate with universities and start-ups, hold regular knowledge sharing, technical training and external talks which aid in growing the data science community and industry reputation.

We are seeking people who are:

• Passionate about building market leading commercial, statistical, financial modelling assets that utilises state of the art data science
• Excited about tackling new challenging business problems in data science
• Adept with using a combination of commercial and technical data science models to find unique solutions in adding strategic value to the business.
• Collaborative in nature to work with product teams, curious enough to solve data problems and courageous in positively influencing senior stakeholders
• Natural leaders that enjoy a collaborative environment and want to help foster a positive and inclusive culture that promotes development and growth
• Constantly thinking outside the box and breaking boundaries to solve complex data science problems

We are also interested in hearing from people who:

• Are able to develop applications and build behavioural models and operational models across Digital and any other space
• Can collaborate with key business areas, including UX designers and Line 1 risk to provide implementable AI and ML solutions and insights to drive engagement and customer satisfaction
• Are experienced in applying high complexity data science techniques to large and unstructured data within a corporate environment
• Have a natural talent to communicate and positively influence a diverse and large group of stakeholders and cross-functional teams

Tech skills:
We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. We don’t expect you to know them all but experience or exposure to any ML and statistical modelling will set you up for success in this role

• Solid foundations in statistics and ML
• Coding skills that allow you to easily and quickly implement ideas and nimbly navigate software documentation
• Excellent data wrangling and visualisation skills are obviously a must have
