How you'll make a difference:
The Deputy Chief Health Officer (DCHO) provides crucial guidance to the Chief Health Officer, Deputy Secretary, Secretary, and respective departmental teams. The role represents the department at state and national committees and focusses on achieving public health outcomes through an attention to detail, analysis, strong communication and negotiation skills.
With a Population Health focus, the DCHO aims to improve Population Health throughout life, emphasising a value-based approach, integrated services, cost-effectiveness, and better outcomes. Their goal includes crafting state-wide health promotion and prevention policies and overseeing public health and chronic disease system planning, outcomes frameworks, and data analytics, in partnership with stakeholders like VicHealth.
The DCHO provides public health medicine advice to inform strategic policy development, health reforms, the management of Population Health programs, and holds public health powers as a senior officer. They can act as Chief Health Officer during leave and may be on standby or a shift-based seven (7) day schedule.
