This position reports operationally to the Discipline Department Head and has operational accountability for the Occupational Therapy service within The Sutherland Hospital.
The Deputy Department Head, alongside the Department Head, will provide operational direction, lead, guide and manage the Occupational Therapy service across Sutherland Hospital and facilitate the implementation of high levels of clinical expertise in order to provide high quality care to patients/clients and their carers consistent with NSW Ministry of Health (MoH) and South Eastern Sydney Local Health District (SESLHD) policies, procedures and standards. The position contributes directly to the development of policy, with consideration of the strategic context.
Employment of a temporary visa holder may only occur if no suitable permanent resident or citizen of Australia has been identified for this position following suitable labour market testing.
All workers and new recruits are required to receive 2 doses of a Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccine to commence employment/ engagement or continue to work within a NSW Health service.
A worker and new recruit will be considered compliant if they have a medical contraindication to all available Therapeutic Goods Administration approved or recognised COVID-19 vaccines and provide medical contraindication evidence in line with the policy requirements.
In addition, all Category A workers and new recruits are required to receive one dose of the seasonal influenza vaccine annually to be considered compliant.
Category A workers and new recruits who are non-compliant with seasonal influenza vaccination or have a medical contraindication to influenza or COVID-19 vaccinations must comply with all other infection control risk reduction strategies as directed while working in a Category A position.

Selection Criteria * Qualifications in accordance with Schedule C of the NSW Health Service Health Professionals (State) Award and National Registration with the Occupational Therapy Board, and demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional learning.
- Extensive clinical and leadership experience as a practising Occupational Therapy.
- Ability to provide high level of guidance, leadership and management of resources and services.
- Demonstrated ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to apply advanced reasoning skills and independent professional judgement when dealing with situations of a novel, complex or critical nature.
- Demonstrated ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and demonstrated application of evidence-based practice within their discipline.
- Excellent negotiation, decision making and advocacy skills including the ability to interact constructively and collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders, throughout all organisational levels.
- Current Class C NSW Drivers licence and willingness to travel in accordance with the demands of the position.
