The Opportunity
Come and work for The Examiner, Australia's third-oldest newspaper. The Examiner services primarily the Northern Tasmanian region and is located in the region's largest city, Launceston. As a masthead, we have had a long and successful history in campaign journalism, advocating for change and reform on behalf of our community.
The successful candidate will have
- Strong news-gathering and writing/reporting skills
- Proven skills in writing for online and social media audiences with tight deadlines
- Proven educational qualifications in Communications/Journalism.
- Work with the editor and staff to drive digital subscriptions through quality journalism.
- Drive our digital schedule
- Act as the editor as required.
- Produce still photographs, video, audio, and copy as needed.
- Provide a steady flow of copy to ensure appropriate quantity and quality of material daily.
- Ensure staff meet deadlines, both print and digital.
- With the editor lead and devise editorial plans
- Sub-edit copy from journalists
- With the editor, lead the development of staff and grow their skills.
- Participate in and lead regular meetings and structured training where required.
- Deal effectively with people and function as a team player.
