About This Opportunity 

In 2023 the UQ Medical School established eight geographically based Learning Communities including four within the Greater Brisbane Clinical School. The Learning Communities bring together students, academics, clinical teachers and professional staff to provide a home where students are engaged in learning from each other and are supported to flourish as they develop as a medical professional across the MD program.

The Deputy Head of the Learning Community (Year 2) will contribute to the establishment and continual development of the Learning Community environment in a manner that promotes inclusivity and a sense of belonging for students and staff with the primary focus on providing a mutually supportive environment to allow medical students to flourish.

Key responsibilities will include: 

  • Teaching: Provide high quality academic leadership to the provision of Year 1 and Year 2 learning experiences and assessment across the Learning Community. This includes academic guidance, remediation, and extension activities for students.

  • Research: Maintain an active record of producing quality research outputs and participate in applications for research funding including the scholarship of teaching and learning and / or clinical research.

  • Supervision and Researcher Development: Contribute to the supervision of medical students and trainees in clinical speciality training programs.

This is a part-time (40%), continuing position, at Academic Level C. The full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $132,201 - $152,202, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $154,676 - $178,076 annually.

As these roles are covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases in line with the Enterprise Agreement.

About You  

  • Medical qualification and eligibility for registration as a medical practitioner in Australia, qualification permitting specialist registration with AHPRA.

  • An established profile in clinical teaching.

  • Expert industry knowledge and extensive experience in a general or specialist capacity, including evidence of dissemination of new and innovative clinical knowledge or techniques.

  • A record of peer reviewed publications in reputed refereed journals and presenting at conferences, in conjunction with evidence of contribution towards successful applications for external research funding.

  • Evidence of a substantial senior contribution to quality clinical teaching at undergraduate postgraduate and/or professional entry level.

  • A strong track record of course coordination and participation in the development and continuous innovation of new programs, curriculum design and course material in the discipline area.

  • A solid record of contribution to the supervision of trainees in clinical speciality training programs.

  • A growing record of meaningful internal service roles in conjunction with demonstrated leadership roles in external activities that foster links within the profession and the relevant specialty, including developing consultancies in speciality areas.

In addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:

  • Work Rights: You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment. 

  • Mandatory Immunisations: It is a condition of employment for this role that you will be required to provide evidence of immunisation against certain vaccine preventable diseases.
