About the role

Head to Health is an open door for people looking for mental health information, services and support for themself or someone they care about.  The Community Engagement Officer ? Head to Health role is to promote the services of Head to Health and help people wanting support with their mental health to get access to support and other services.

This will be done by ensuring information is accessible to people, their families / carers and the community to increase the capacity of people and their community to connect with appropriate health and well-being supports at the time they are needed.  They will also help to increase community awareness of mental health issues, facilitate participation, organise and deliver mental health promotion activities and community events to engage identified target populations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and coordinate events for target groups to increase the profile of Head to Health - Redlands and Head to Health - Logan, delivering key messages (e.g. mental health literacy, reduced stigma, anti-discrimination, early help seeking).
  • Assist with the development, implementation, and evaluation of a Community Awareness Strategy for the local centres in conjunction with the Manager - Head to Health.
  • Work closely with the centres staff to ensure that the impact of any campaign/event is addressed at the planning stages so that the Head to Health team are available to manage increased referrals.
  • Link in with other key community providers to develop and deliver mutual and partnered engagement sessions to the community and other community providers, including tailored sessions to respond to the needs of First Nations people, culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) people, the LGBTQIA+ community, and people with disabilities.
  • Work with the Footprints Marketing team to produce documents and promotional material of a professional standard that comply with branding policy, suitable for external communication to a variety of target audiences.
  • Build relationships with external service providers and report on opportunities for mutually beneficial partnerships that progress the Redlands and Logan Head to Health centres toward their objectives.
  • Provide feedback to the Manager - Head to Health of any possible networking opportunities.
  • Liaise with community groups and stakeholders to identify needs and undertake initiatives within key areas.
  • Provide outreach and in-reach to specified groups in specified locations.
  • Respond to information requests from the community or agencies, in accordance with Footprints policy, strategies and objectives.
  • Work with the Head to Health Manager and teams to ensure that health promotion messages and activities relating to mental health are consistent and evidence-based.
  • Assist in the organisation and delivery of relevant community events and activities such as Head to Health training activities, community events, promotional days/weeks (e.g. Mental Health Week).
  • Meet KPI's and provide case studies where required.
  • Perform all administrative tasks in relation to the position.
  • Maintain an awareness of Footprints activities and initiate timely update of relevant content specific to this role, ensuring the content is current and relevant to business needs.
  • Maintain a safe work practice in accordance with Occupational Health & Safety legislation and Footprints policies.
  • Attend all required mandatory training and team meetings.
  • Keep up to date with relevant mental health sector trends, gaps and information.
  • Other duties consistent with the position where required and / or requested by management from time to time.

Knowledge and Skills required

  • Relevant Tertiary Qualification in community development (or similar field), or significant progress towards such a qualification and/or demonstrated experience in the provision of Community Engagement initiatives.
  • Experience working for a community-based organisation and with community groups.
  • Demonstrated understanding of mental health and engaging with people to improve their wellbeing and the stigmas faced by people experiencing mental health unwellness.
  • Demonstrated experience in community networking and working collaboratively with external service providers to plan and provide consistent, responsive, and appropriate services.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills, and the demonstrated ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Computer literacy and the ability to effectively manage a client data base. Ability to work remotely from a team when required, and ability to utilise virtual meeting platforms so to deliver engagement sessions e.g., Microsoft Teams, Zoom.
  • Current class C driver license.
  • Ability to use your own insured vehicle.
  • National NDIS Worker Screening Check or current Yellow Card
