This is a six (6) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 2, 2024 with possible extension and/or permanency. 

The successful applicant will ideally have a strong knowledge of the Western Australian curriculum and, through coaching, be able to lead teachers in an inclusive approach that balances the explicit teaching required to develop sound literacy and numeracy skills, with cooperative and collaborative techniques that support social and emotional development.

The successful applicant will have the capacity to lead high impact teaching strategies in the school and have proven experience in the planning and delivery of engaging literacy and numeracy programs with a particular focus on explicit instruction. A deep understanding of how to differentiate to meet the needs of all students will be highly regarded, as is the ability to use a variety of assessment tools to inform progress, enable constructive feedback and drive future planning at the classroom and school level.

To be successful in this role, you will ideally be a passionate educator, committed to making a difference in the lives of young people. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work effectively as part of a team environment.

We are seeking an individual who has experience in leading whole school change in critical areas, with a particular focus in the Early Years and has a strong understanding of evidence-based practices. They will ideally possess a strong background in NQS, InitiaLit, Talk for Writing and Positive Behaviour Support.

The successful applicant should ideally have outstanding interpersonal skills to develop strong relationships with all stakeholders of the school community. Strong curriculum knowledge and the ability to lead professional learning communities is important to the role.

North Tom Price (PS) is one of two primary schools located at Tom Price in the Pilbara region of WA, approximately 1465km from Perth. The school has attractive grounds which adjoin the local oval and is surrounded by the nearby ranges of the picturesque Hamersley Ranges. The renowned Karijini National Park is a short drive away providing a picturesque recreational area to visit and enjoy.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements

 Employees will be required to:

  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment.
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
