This is a six (6) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 3, 2024 with possible extension six (6) months.

North Kalgoorlie Primary School (PS) is seeking a dedicated, highly competent and enthusiastic Deputy Principal to join our team.

About the Role

The ideal applicant should work collaboratively and have a proven ability in line management, explicit teaching and working with a wide range of staff, from those with experience to graduates.

As a Deputy Principal, you should establish and sustain effective collaborative approaches to lead whole school improvement, instructional practice and curriculum development. The ability to analyse data to inform teaching and learning and strong interpersonal skills when working with parents and stakeholders is highly regarded. As a school we provide the best possible education, ensuring all students develop a broad range of knowledge skills and values to adapt to a changing world.

This position will have a broad range of responsibilities including building the capacity of individual staff and supporting the leadership development of curriculum and phase of schooling team leaders. A high level of competency in WA curriculum is ideal in this role. The successful applicant will also have responsibilities with curriculum leadership, analysing data to lead school improvement, the case management of Students at Educational Risk students, student services, classroom management and sustaining effective communication and relationships with the whole school community. North Kalgoorlie PS is implementing and refining whole school methodologies in explicit teaching and learning to ensure that teaching continues to be of a high standard. The ability to model lessons, coach and provide feedback to teachers on lesson delivery is highly regarded.

About the School

North Kalgoorlie PS is located in suburb of Lamington. Lamington is one of Kalgoorlie's oldest and finest suburbs. The school first opened in 1902 and boasts a tradition and spirit that brings all ex and current North Kalers together as one. North Kalgoorlie PS is a very proud school, and we are committed to providing a learning environment that is inclusive, motivational, supportive, caring and engaging for every student. We have Pastoral Care as a priority and inclusivity is a large part of this.

Currently we run a number of programs across the school supporting our focus of developing a safe, healthy, enjoyable learning environment. We are continuing to explore how we are inclusive of our students learning styles, needs, culture, interests and best meeting the needs of our students. Students at North Kalgoorlie PS are from varied backgrounds. Some are fourth generation Kalgoorlie born families. Some are families involved in the mining industry who move location regularly. Others are from various Aboriginal groups around the state and country.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements

 Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
