This is a permanent part-time (0.8FTE) position commencing Term 3, 2024

Riverside Primary School (PS) are seeking a Deputy PrincipalLearning Support to join their team.

In collaboration with the principal and members of the administrative team, the Deputy Principal should provide educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school vision and facilitating workforce effectiveness. The successful applicant should have highly developed interpersonal skills, with the ability to pay attention to detail and work cooperatively and efficiently in a team environment. You should also be able to effectively communicate with students, staff and families.

The successful applicant will ideally display successful experience in supporting and building the capacity of their staff through coaching and mentoring processes. We are seeking an individual who ideally possess high levels of leadership and change management, outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to build a team and nurture a professional learning culture.

Their high-level leadership and knowledge will ideally be applied to:

  • Oversee complex cases and interventions for Students at Education Risk (SAER) varying from imputed to moderate disabilities, autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and students requiring Learning Support or adjustments.
  • Knowledge of pastoral care practice including case management coordination and interagency cooperation to effectively address the needs of students in the areas of mental health.
  • Policy development and review within the Student Services context as well as whole school operations
  • Key components of the role include liaising with inter-agencies and allied health, and managing student disability resourcing,
  • Oversight and coordination of Education Assistants (EA’s) across the school by collaborating with and supporting the Lead SNEA
  • Facilitate whole staff engagement in our agenda to promote and support positive behaviours and wellbeing.
  • Manage programs, specific curriculum areas and/or portfolios such as:
    • Special Education Needs Planning and Reporting to Parents’
    • managing complex behaviours
    • Case Management of diagnosed special education needs (SEN) students
    • Implement and support whole school evidence-based practices within a multi-tiered system of support

You will consult with staff to provide classroom support and direction. We are seeking someone ideally with the knowledge and skills to work with a diverse range of students with learning difficulties. You should have highly effective case management skills and be able to provide confident feedback on classroom observations. The successful applicant will ideally be a creative and diverse thinker to meet student needs.

The role would require you to lead Professional Learning Communities, that focus on student learning of the behaviour curriculum, data, intervention, re-teaching and high levels of collaboration. An understanding of Social and Emotional Wellbeing for students and effective strategies to assist students to self-regulate are highly desirable.

The successful applicant should have a high-level of knowledge regarding the Western Australian Curriculum. The successful applicant should also display outstanding communication and interpersonal skills and be committed to achieving exceptional educational outcomes for all students in this challenging environment where inclusivity forms an essential component of the school values system.

The successful applicant should also possess extensive knowledge in whole school approaches to curriculum, data analysis, and the ability to successfully assist staff with identifying key areas of focus to support the school’s Vision, Business Plan and Operational Plans. Riverside PS is located in the suburb of Greenfields, Mandurah. We share our site with Riverside Education Support Centre with approximately 470 students enrolled in our school. This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements

 Employees will be required to:

  • provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy;
  • consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment
  • obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check;
  • complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement;
  • complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter;
  • complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
