Job description

This is a twelve (12) month fixed term, full-time position commencing Term 1, 2025 with possible extension (24 months).Christmas Island District High School (DHS) is seeking to appoint a highly motivated and dedicated Deputy Principal.The successful applicant should be a hardworking and committed professional focused on leading school improvement. They will manage and lead the staff and students by providing instructional curriculum and pedagogical leadership under the direction of the Principal. The Deputy Principal will support and build the capacity of their staff through coaching and mentoring processes, lead the thorough analysis of student and whole school performance data, and support the planning of targeted differentiation to drive student progress and achievement. Taking an innovative approach to improving student outcomes is critical to being successful in the role. This role has a 0.3 teaching load in the literacy intervention program.In collaboration with the Principal, the Deputy Principal provides educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school vision, school values and priorities. They establish strong relationships with students, staff and the community. A significant responsibility of the Deputy Principal is to embed and maintain aspects of the school culture that promote positive relationships between students and staff, engaging parents and caregivers, in addition to the wider community in the educational work of the school.The role requires supporting the Principal with developing and implementing the school strategic plan and operational plans. You will assist the Principal to ensure compliance with relevant legislation, Department policies and procedures, and management of financial, physical and human resources.This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy.   • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings.
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes.
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

  • Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement; and
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.
