This is a permanent full-time position commencing Term 3, 2024

Exmouth District High School (DHS) is seeking a strategic leader who is innovative and committed to making a positive difference in the lives of young people as a key member of the Executive and Leadership Team.

As an integral member of the executive leadership team, you will lead and develop innovative solutions; establish and maintain collaborative and productive relationships with stakeholders, and build a culture of professional excellence with leaders, teachers, and allied staff so that students are future-ready and able to contribute effectively to the wider community.

In collaboration with the Principal and the Executive Team, the Deputy Principal will provide educational leadership in the school and the community by developing and promoting the school’s vision, business plan, and strategic directions across the school community. A significant responsibility of the Deputy Principal is to embed and maintain aspects of the school culture that promotes positive relationships between students and staff. Furthermore, to engage parents, caregivers, and the wider community in the educational work of the school.

As a high-performing leader, you will work collaboratively with all staff and students and use your excellent interpersonal skills to contribute to a culture of high expectations where students and staff learn, grow, and adjust to change. The successful applicant should possess the ability to think and plan strategically and identify innovative and practical solutions to challenges. They should display the capacity to contribute to the development of a positive school culture that exhibits high expectations linked directly to successful student outcomes in a wide range of pathways.

The Deputy Principal should bring with them a passion for student achievement, innovative thinking, and the ability to work in a K-12 school. They should be a highly skilled instructional leader who leads by example. You should ideally exhibit knowledge and experience in leading data-driven change and improvement through evidence-based practice.

Student engagement is a high priority at Exmouth DHS, and knowledge of contemporary student services systems, procedures, and protocols will be highly regarded, including strength in building and maintaining community partnerships.

As a highly visible leader, you should exhibit a love of learning and a growth mindset. Currency in contemporary understanding of leading school improvement, change initiatives, and the ability to effectively use evidence-based data to inform decision-making should underpin your successful practice. As a highly successful instructional leader, you will ideally possess strong professional knowledge to support quality differentiation of curriculum, learning, and assessment that reflects contemporary pedagogical research and practices so that our students are engaged and equipped with 21st-century skills.

Flexibility to work across year levels is required for this role. It is desirable that the successful applicant has a working knowledge of Western Australian Certificate of Education (WACE) requirements, leading Senior Leadership Teams in data cycles and analysis, overseeing learning area planning, monitoring, and synthesis of results will be key to your success in this role.

The successful applicant must have the capacity to work collaboratively, manage change with dexterity, and communicate effectively with all members of the school community.

Exmouth DHS is a proudly Independent Public School with approximately 524 students from Kindergarten to Year 12. We are committed to providing the best possible education for the children of our community and are charged with preparing our students for a diverse range of futures. Successful applicants would join a team of 40 teaching staff and 25 support staff.

Exmouth is a coastal community of situated in the remote Northwest of Western Australia.

Located about 1250km north of Perth, 850km north of the large regional city of Geraldton and 550km southwest of the Pilbara mining operations in Karratha, we are surrounded by Cape Range National Park and are the gateway to the unique Ningaloo Reef, recently listed as a World Heritage site. There is a permanent population of approximately 3,500 people which swells to thousands more during peak tourist periods. Due to the number of tourists visiting Exmouth the town has many amenities which would not normally be expected in a town of its size.

This selection process will initially be used to fill the above vacancy. Applicants assessed as suitable during this selection process may be considered for other similar vacancies that occur throughout our school for up to 12 months following this initial appointment. This includes circumstances where this position becomes subsequently vacant should the successful applicant decline or vacate the advertised position. 

To be suitable for this role, you will need to demonstrate the following work related requirements:

  • Capacity to provide effective leadership in a diverse range of educational settings;
  • High level of interpersonal and public relations skills that demonstrate the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships to achieve planned outcomes;
  • Professional knowledge and the ability to apply this knowledge to ensure a high level of educational outcomes for all students (e.g. Aboriginal students, students from diverse ethnic backgrounds and students with special needs).
  • Capacity to manage staff, physical and financial resources.

Eligibility and training requirements

 Employees will be required to:

  • Provide evidence of eligibility to work in Australia for the term of the vacancy.
  • Consent to a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check and obtain a current Screening Clearance Number issued by the Department of Education’s Screening Unit prior to commencement of employment.
  • Obtain or hold a current Working with Children Check.
  • Meet the Department of Education Teacher Qualifications and Registration requirements.
  • Complete the Department’s induction program within three months of commencement.
  • Complete the Department’s training in Accountable and Ethical Decision-Making within six months of appointment and every three years thereafter.
  • Complete the Department’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultural awareness online course within 3 months of commencement.
  • Complete any training specific to this role required by Departmental policy.

The Department applies a four (4) day breach period to this selection process.
