THE ROLE:
The Design Assistant is a hands-on and collaborative role that is responsible to assist the Designers in preparation of data pack documentation, bill of materials and all samples (including technical drawings, specifications, range plans, product information sheets, and garment photography). The Design Assistant primarily will liaise with our Design Team and Sales & Contract Team to ensure the quality, fit and function validation of sample garments.
THE ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Design Assistant will be responsible for:
- Support Designer with the assistance of sketches and building a specification.
- Verify fabrics and components for samples as directed by the Designer.
- Kitting work for samples as required by the Designer.
- Conducting quality inspections on prototype and pre-production samples
- Assist the Designer with the preparation of presentation materials, such as drawings and storyboards.
- Assist in organising and maintaining the store of materials held by Design.
- Undertake activities delegated by the designer which pertains to the design area e.g. meetings that the designer is unable to attend.
- Liaise between offshore manufacturing and design area.
- Assist designers with new designs and creating patterns.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE:
- Tertiary qualifications (Advanced Diploma level or above) in Industrial Design; or Fashion Design.
- Minimum 1 year experience in a product design environment or a design role is desired.
- Understanding Design for manufacturing is essential.
- Has worked with Laser Cutting/3D Printing/3D Rendering – or any other concept fabrication techniques is desired.
- Ability to use the Adobe suite (Illustrator and InDesign in particular).
- Experience in Solidworks or any other CAD program is desired.
- Experience in creating technical drawings and specifications is desired.
- Ability to use current word processing and spreadsheet packages.
- Good oral/written communication and drawing skills.
- Ability to work under pressure and as part of a dynamic team.
- Strong motivation towards implementation and results.
