About Woolworths Group
Woolworths Group is a food and everyday needs retailer united by the shared purpose of creating better experiences together for a better tomorrow. With more than 1,400 stores across its Woolworths Supermarkets, Countdown Supermarkets (New Zealand) and BIG W brands, and fast-growing eCommerce businesses, Woolworths Group is Australia and New Zealand’s largest retailer. A top 10 company on the Australian Securities Exchange (ASX), Woolworths Group employs more than 180,000 team members and serves more than 20 million customers a week.
The Opportunity
Join the founding team of a new, profit-for purpose startup solving food waste Currently in closed beta, launching in late 2023
Backed by major investors, including W23, Woolworths Group’s venture capital fund
About us
30% of all food produced in Australia is wasted, costing the economy billions, wasting land and water resources, and contributing excess greenhouse gas emissions. In addition, on any given day, hundreds of thousands of Australian households are facing food insecurity and are struggling to put food on the table.
This problem is complex and driven by a variety of factors, such as on-farm damage, supply and demand mismatch, and unmet cosmetic standards.
We are a new, profit-for-purpose startup on a mission to solve the food waste problem.
We’re creating a digital platform that will unite the ecosystem and reduce food waste by:
Providing food producers and buyers a simple and trustworthy way to buy, sell, move and donate excess produce
Automating logistics of produce from sellers to buyers, regardless of location within the country
Identifying additional innovation opportunities through data & insights
We are currently operating in private beta and will launch publicly in late 2023. We’re backed by a number of major investors, including W23, Woolworths Group’s venture capital fund.
We’re currently looking to hire exceptional individuals to expand the founding team and join us on our journey to challenge the status quo in food waste and create a more sustainable future.
This is a rare opportunity to work for an early stage, profit-for-purpose startup, backed by major investors.
Make a positive impact on the world – Be a part of a purpose led organisation focused on creating positive change to the food industry, those facing food insecurity, as well as our planet!
Fast-paced and challenging startup environment – Work on tricky problems and get in the trenches to make it all happen
Your role is mission critical – As an early stage hire in a new team, the impact you create will directly translate to the success of the startup
Be rewarded fairly – Enjoy a competitive salary and a range of benefits designed to allow you to be your best

About you
Strong experience in product design
An exceptional portfolio, demonstrating completion of multiple projects with emphasis on design process and outcomes
Confidence in defining the design process and leading other designers through it
Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
Proficiency in working with designing tools: e.g. Figma, Adobe Suite
Very high standard of attention to detail
Grow with the Group
As an inclusive, team-first company, our people are at the core of everything we do.
We care deeply about creating a workplace where our team members feel valued, respected and empowered. As our Group continues to evolve, innovate and support our communities, we encourage our team members to do the same with their own careers, by providing ongoing opportunities to grow and make a real difference.
We value flexibility, and encourage our team members to work in ways that meet their work/life commitments and support their wellbeing.
We work hard to create a safe and inclusive environment for all, and most importantly, we're all about creating better experiences – for our customers and for each other.
