About the Role
The Director of Community Services is responsible for providing Community Services to the Aurukun community, fostering an environment of respect and enhancing community pride.
The role includes overseeing services such as childcare, aged care, community events, funeral assistance, community engagement, Indigenous Knowledge Centre (IKC), community radio, library, community security, environmental health, and animal control.
Key Accountabilities
- Provide leadership to the staff in the Community Services department
- Contribute proactively to the ASC management team
- Assist in budget formation and monitor departmental performance
- Ensure efficient delivery of services in line with the council's operational plan
- Pursue ASC's Corporate Plan goals
- Provide timely reports to support decision-making
- Monitor staff performance and development
- Assist in developing community strategies
- Maintain relationships with government and non-government agencies
- Ensure compliance with Council policies
Qualifications, Skills, and Attributes
- Senior management experience
- Track record in values-based leadership
- Experience in overseeing Community Services functions
- Competency in budgeting and financial management
- Passion for driving positive community outcomes
- Open Car (Manual) drivers' license
Key Selection Criteria
- Tertiary qualifications relevant to the role
- Experience in managing Community Services, particularly in Aboriginal communities
- Effective communication and interaction with Aboriginal communities
- Ability to engage diverse communities and stakeholder groups
- Proven leadership and team management skills
