Your Opportunity
As the Director of Human Resources for the North Region you will be responsible for:
- Provide expert advice to and be part of the North Region Executive Leadership Team.
- Shape, drive and influence the strategic direction and critical business decisions of the region’s vision and objectives.
- Enhance and improve workforce capability throughout the Region.
- Be responsible for the leadership and direction across the functions of Human Resources and Industrial Relations.
- Contribute to the achievement of the broader TAFE Queensland vision and ensure the organisation is a market leader in the provision of high quality education and training.
This position directly to the General Manager North Region and has close working relationships with all members of the TQN Executive and Senior Leadership teams.
This is a Permanent, Full-Time opportunity.
The position will be based primarily at Cairns or Townsville Campuses however you may be required to perform work at other TAFE Queensland campuses.
The Total Remuneration Package (TRP) for this role is to be negotiated.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the portfolio of Human Resources and participate as a key member of the TQN Senior Executive Team to ensure the achievement of the TAFE Queensland Strategic Plan and key objectives under the TQN Operational Plan.
- In consultation with TAFE Corporate Employee Relations coordinate an integrated approach to TQN’s industrial relations functions.
- Identify and lead the implementation of human resource initiatives to meet organisational objectives including the establishment of attraction and retention, capability development, health and wellbeing, business process improvement, workforce management, and accountability frameworks that are aligned to the strategic functional HR direction and enable organisational success.
- Provide a commercial and pragmatic approach to the provision of advice on human resource management and industrial relations functions to internal clients including providing options for leaders with any policy, financial or reputational risks outlined and innovative solutions to mitigate risk.
- Develop and communicate the Human Resources operational and strategic objectives including planning, organising and managing team responsibilities and priorities in accordance with those plans and alignment with TAFE Queensland.
- Provide change management support to the client group to support leaders in their accountability of sponsoring and leading change including leading consultation and relationship building within the TAFE Queensland network and key external stakeholders including providing change leadership and coaching.
- Work with the leaders to implement, as applicable, HR policies and procedures for the corporate office that results in compliant, effective, and efficient management of staff performance and organisational behaviour.
- Contribute to and/or lead the development of state wide human resource operational services, frameworks and processes to enhance consistency and alignment in line with agreed strategic direction.
- Build and reinforce a positive and engaged working environment by developing and maintaining strategic networks and working relationships across TQ, unions and other agencies to ensure an ethical, safe and supportive work environment for employees.
- Contribute to the success of cultural change within the organisation through promoting and modelling the established TAFE Queensland values of Working Together, Focussing on our Customer, Taking Responsibility, Showing Initiative, and Safety First.

1. Engage others in the strategic direction of Human Resources, Industrial Relations and Capability priorities and develop long-term plans for a large and complex organisation.
2. Negotiate effectively with others by demonstrating a fair and objective view and presenting a convincing and balanced rationale with a grasp of all issues.
3. Demonstrated ability to provide high quality advice and recommendations on Human Resources and Industrial Relations matters to Senior Executives that ensure the Region meets its legal and compliance obligations.
4. Ability to lead and deliver outcomes for improvement in a rapidly changing, complex and competitive multi-disciplinary learning environment.
5. High level planning, analysis, problem solving and management skills.
