As an active member of the Port Arthur Historic Site Management Authority’s (PAHSMA) Executive Leadership Team (ELT), The Director Interpretation and Experience works in a collaborative manner to deliver the conservation and tourism outcomes for the organisation.
The Director Interpretation and Experience is responsible for creating a vision and framework for the planning, design and delivery of content and programs that educate, engage and enhance visitor, public and community understanding and appreciation of the heritage values of PAHSMA’s sites. This includes the values that accrue from the sites’ inclusion as part of the Australian Convict Sites World Heritage Property.
The Director will provide leadership and direction for interpretation, external communications, education and Experience development for all the Port Arthur Historic Sites, and work in partnership with the other members of the Executive Leadership team (ELT) to ensure the reflection and protection of our heritage values and conservation messages ensure consistency in visitor experience and services across all PAHSMA sites. This role also works in partnership with the ELT to deliver sustainable heritage and tourism outcomes across PAHSMA.
Statement of Duties- As a member of the ELT you will provide high level advice and specialist knowledge to contribute to the leadership, strategic planning, policy development and future direction of PAHSMA.
- You will develop and articulate strategic vision and priorities for interpretation, education and public engagement across PAHSMA.
- You will lead and proactively manage the Interpretation and Experience Department articulating the vision, negotiating and defining priorities and applying contemporary people management practices to support a high performing and motivated team while ensuring the best use of human, physical and financial resources.
- You will work in partnership across the organisation to provide quality visitor experiences and heritage outcomes in order to meet both conservation and commercial objectives.
- You will develop, promote and deliver visitor focused and disciplined operations to enable a seamless visitor experience for diverse audiences, that are financially viable and contribute to sustainable heritage tourism outcomes.
- You will ensure all public-facing and interpretative material accurately reflects the heritage significance and authenticity of the PAHSMA sites.
- You will lead the development of new and existing visitor and education experiences and programs through active collaboration across PAHSMA, and with relevant stakeholders and the community.
- You will lead the development and management of external communications and messaging including brand, marketing and external tools such as web and social media.
- You will identify, solicit, and cultivate fundraising sources for education and interpretation initiatives.
