About the area
The Lawrence Wilson Art Gallery (LWAG) is a university Art Gallery of international standing that plays a pivotal role in supporting the educational, research, and community engagement efforts of the University of Western Australia.

LWAG has stewardship of two significant art collections: the University of Western Australia Art Collection and the Cruthers Collection of Women's Art. The gallery is well known for championing contemporary art and emerging artists, and showcasing the diversity of Western Australian art.

About the opportunity
Reporting to the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Education) and leading a small team, you will oversee operations, expanding audience engagement, preserving, and caring for LWAG collections and setting the artistic direction of the exhibition, public, and academic programs.

In this strategic and cultural leadership role, a unique skill set is crucial, combining curatorial expertise, creative direction, financial acumen, strategic vision, and effective leadership. This position serves as a vital link connecting academia, the general public, and the art world, enriching the cultural landscape of both the University and the wider community.

About you
To be considered for this opportunity, you will demonstrate relevant tertiary qualifications or demonstrated equivalent competency and extensive experience collaborating with Australian First Nations people, showing cultural awareness and adherence to protocols and best practice to ensure cultural safety. You will also have proven skills in directing artistic vision for galleries and museums, expertise in management, curation, strategy and operations, and the ability to influence long-term planning. You will also demonstrate a dedication to the evolving role of galleries/museums, setting ambitious benchmarks for audience engagement and providing opportunities for scholarly investigation for staff, students, and researchers.

Note: Provision of a Current National Police Clearance will be required for the successful applicant.
