Director Legal Services

Do you want to work in a genuinely flexible and friendly CBD environment?

Here at the ERA we have healthy debates, we want our employees to voice their opinion, we value each other’s perspectives and we provide an inclusive environment. We empower our people to drive innovation. We actively listen and start with yes when approached with good ideas.

You will join a supportive team that is trusted for its integrity, professionalism, and expertise.

The ERA is seeking a passionate professional to join us on a permanent full-time or part-time basis as Director Legal Services in our Office of the CEO division providing high quality Legal Services to the ERA. Further appointments for similar roles may be made from this recruitment process as and when opportunities arise in the next 12 months.

About the ERA

The ERA is the independent regulator of electricity, gas, water and rail in Western Australia. Our purpose is to benefit all Western Australians by promoting strong economic outcomes through effective regulation and decision making. We strive to make sure current and future consumers pay no more than necessary for safe and reliable utilities.

The Office of the CEO provides legal, research and communications support to teams throughout the ERA. We also have a strategic function, assisting the CEO to shape organisational culture and promote the ERA to our stakeholders.

Our work supports the ERA’s two regulatory divisions, Regulation and Energy Markets, and our Corporate Services division. How we work is just as important to us as what we do. Our people have integrity, strive for excellence, and build trust.

You will also coordinate all complex legal advice to the ERA from external sources such as the State Solicitors Officer and private law firms. You will assist project teams to interpret legal advice and oversee and advise on litigation involving the ERA.

The ERA is open to considering applications from all lawyers with some demonstrated experience in one or more of the following areas:

  1. commercial law;
  2. statutory interpretation;
  3. public / administrative law;
  4. litigation; and
  5. energy law.

However, if your experience looks a little different from what we've identified and you think you can bring value to the role or the ERA, we'd love to have a chat. We are also open to discussing part-time and other flexible arrangements that will help you succeed in this role.

A full description of the role and organisational context is included in the attached Job Description Form.
