About this role
The Director Midwifery & Nursing works in partnership to provide effective leadership, governance, strategic planning and operational management of Women and Newborn Health Service (WNHS). This position will be required to initiate, implement and operationalise strategies for the WNHS as part of North Metropolitan Health Service (NMHS) and Department of Health WA.WNHS is the leading State provider of a range of services including obstetric, gynaecology, gynaeoncology and a range of unique services for women.
The Director Midwifery & Nursing (DOMN) works collaboratively with the Nursing/Midwifery Executive Team, to provide strategic leadership, direction and professional advice relating to clinical and professional policy,, quality and safety of patient care, service delivery models, workforce, and evidence based practice. The DOMN has operational governance over a range of nursing and midwife services including Infection, Prevention and Control, Patient Flow, and the daily nursing and midwifery staffing requirements of the Hospital. As a tertiary teaching hospital, Service Co-Directors have a role to lead state-wide issues associated with women and newborn health. As part of the WNHS Executive team, this position will be jointly accountable for the clinical and corporate governance of the WNHS.
In this role you will be able to inform and influence professional Midwifery and Nursing practice at an Area and State level, providing strategic and professional advice on midwifery practice, maternity services and women’s health initiatives This role reports operationally to the Executive Director WNHS.

Ideally you will have experience in leading maternity and/or gynaecological services or significant experience in leading hospital-based services.
Area Profile
KEMH is the State's only tertiary maternity and gynaecological hospital and treated its first patients in 1916. Today more than 6000 births take place at the hospital every year and it is WA's only major referral centre for high-risk pregnancies.
KEMH also cares for approximately 5000 women with gynaecological conditions each year - from urological and cancer related problems to sexually transmitted diseases and reproductive disorders.
WNHS also offers a maternity and gynaecology unit at Osborne Park Hospital (OPH) which provides gynaecology care and obstetric care to women with low to moderate risk pregnancies.
WNHS manages several state wide services, which include BreastScreen WA, the Cervical Screening Unit, Sexual Assault Resource Centre (SARC), Genetic Health WA, the Mother and Baby Unit and other specialist programs for women and babies.
WNHS is part of NMHS which delivers tertiary care at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, OPH, Mental Health, Public Health, Dental Health Services and the Joondalup Health Campus.
