Job description

Exciting Permanent role, Full-time, Flexible location | Provide strategic leadership and oversight of the operations within the Office of Rural and Remote Health | Contribute to the Department’s role of supporting Rural and Remote Health service delivery and improvements across Queensland

The role
As the Director of the Office of Rural and Remote Health (ORRH), you hold a pivotal role in coordinating and delivering responsive, time-critical, and expert leadership and policy advice to the Executive Director (ED) ORRH. Your focus extends to matters of significance to the Deputy Director-General, Director-General, and Minister, ensuring strategic support aligns with their priorities. Leading consultations, negotiations, and collaborative efforts with internal and external stakeholders, you drive forward key initiatives across Rural and Remote HHSs in partnership with relevant local, State and national stakeholders.  Your oversight encompasses the ORRH's response to a spectrum of complex issues, where your guidance and influence contribute to practical outcomes at both federal and state levels.

In addition to your strategic leadership, you champion the ORRH's vision through project management, adeptly managing multiple priorities while nurturing the team's capabilities over time. Your leadership style fosters a culture of quality improvement, where staff development aligns closely with organisational objectives. By ensuring the consistent delivery of high-quality advice and fostering collaboration, you play an integral role in advancing the health and well-being of Rural and Remote communities.

The successful person
Success in this position hinges on possessing advanced communication, influencing, policy analysis, strategy formulation, and problem-solving capabilities. You must excel in negotiation and assertiveness while fostering productive partnerships. Demonstrating expertise in strategy development, coordination, and implementation within complex environments is essential, as is the ability to synthesise information from various sources and oversee multiple projects within specified times.

Moreover, exceptional written and verbal communication skills are imperative, including the capacity to negotiate effectively and communicate persuasively to ensure that policy advice accurately reflects the Department's stance on Rural and Remote Healthcare. This includes adeptly handling intricate documents such as complex briefings and reports, aligning them with Queensland Health and government's strategic objectives.

While not mandatory, possessing a relevant qualification would be advantageous. Given the nature of the role, travel is required, potentially involving light aircraft, and may necessitate work outside regular business hours.
