About The Role
As Director Planning and Growth, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer, you will be leading a significant directorate of dedicated and experienced professionals covering Strategic Planning, Development Assessment and Building Certification, Environmental Sciences, Building and Health Compliance and Traffic and Public Domain planning.
A creative thinker, you will be comfortable generating alternatives, visualising new possibilities, challenging assumptions and opening yourself up to new information. Further your ability to plan for the future through strategic and statutory Planning and the development of place-based strategies that will provide balanced growth and deliver increased diverse housing stock while remaining aware of the unique environment which defines Sutherland Shire.
You will have opportunities to showcase your commercial acumen in significant planning agreement negotiations underway, be a central player in long term discussions on waste management as landfill operations are remediated and returned to Sutherland by 2040, and as a key agent in the implementation of Council’s ambitious Climate Clean 2030 Strategy.
The role will also critically support developing placemaking and land use strategies to complement the State government’s initiatives, for the Council to consider. As would be expected, this position is also responsible for budget, governance, workforce Planning and evaluation of service delivery, outcomes and business performance.

This role will undoubtedly form a significant and integral element of a senior leader’s career and as such we are keen to hear from suitably experienced Planning and allied Professionals from across Australia and New Zealand.
It is expected that as a minimum you will hold a Bachelor of Urban and Regional Planning or a related field with substantial public sector experience.
An executive remuneration package is offered as would be expected of such a position.
