The Team

The Strategic Priorities Branch enables core business areas in service delivery. This includes improving our ability to attract suitable surge and temporary election workforce, improving and expanding a nationally consistent service offering for electors in remote area and very remote areas, and property planning, facilities management, and capital works. 

Our property footprint is a key enabler for how we deliver events and provide a safe and productive working environment for our staff. Across all functions we work with our users, our colleagues, and our Executive. 

The Property Management and Facilities section is responsible for managing the AEC’s property portfolio, with respect to leasing and Facilities management, including leasing arrangements new and existing 78 BAU sites, maintaining AEC facility infrastructure across all 78 BAU sites, ensuring compliance with property related Commonwealth property policy requirements, including implementing environmental and sustainable practices. Working closely with the Event Workplace Section, where the activities intersect with election event workplace leasing and Facilities for the additional 75 sites set up for electoral events. 

The Opportunity

The Director, Property Management and Facilities leads the section responsible for the day-to-day operations of the Property Management facilities functions within the Property Management and Facilities section of the Strategic Priorities Branch. 

The role is responsible for undertaking work that is complex and sensitive in nature, under broad direction, utilising expertise, and knowledge within the area of Property Management and planning, facilities, procurement, and contract management activities in relation to agency property portfolio. 

The successful candidate in this role will oversee the strategic operation of the Property Management and Facilities section, while providing high quality and timely advice internally and externally, including guidance and reporting to Branch leadership and the Senior Executive cohort including Executive Leadership Team in relation to agency accommodation requirements, including innovative and strategic solutions to future leasing opportunities. 

You will proactively manage the AEC’s property portfolio of assets consistent with high level policies and legislative requirements to ensure this strategically significant resource effectively supports the AEC service delivery. You will contribute to property policy and doctrine, election preparation and delivery activities in accordance with the election readiness framework, according to individual accountabilities and responsibilities. 

To excel you’ll have:

  • Ability to lead and manage the Property Management and Facilities section to ensure high quality outputs, including building team capability to maintain a high level of expertise and encouraging career development. 
  • Demonstrated ability in using sound judgement and decision making skills on complex issues and make a significant contribution to the management, preparation, and coordination of property related policy and/or project management. 
  • Ability to pro-actively building and maintain positive relationships with key internal and external stakeholders, including the allocated Property Service Provider (Ventia). This includes collaborating with to identify opportunities, achieve outcomes and facilitate cooperation. 
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to make decisions using professional judgement, evaluating risks and in the context of a complex and changing environment.
  • Ability to perform additional duties or assume responsibility of functions as directed by the Senior Executive cohort including, Executive Leadership Team, from time to time.
