About our team:
Chief Operating Officer Group | Finance Division | Financial Operations | Treasury and Banking
This position is in the Treasury and Banking Section of the Financial Operations Branch. The section is responsible for overseeing the Treasury and Banking functions for the Department including processing payment runs, managing bank accounts, performing bank reconciliations and controlling appropriation drawdowns. The section also is responsible for revenue receipting throughout the department, both onshore and offshore, ensuring that revenue is collected, receipted and reconciled in accordance with Commonwealth financial legislation and departmental policy. Other tasks include managing visitor visa bond refunds processing, global revenue reconciliations, Security Bond reconciliations, managing petty cash reconciliations onshore and offshore, the Strategic Treasury function, chargebacks and the Collector of Public Monies (CPM) function.

A Highly Protected Security Clearance Level is required for the role.
Duties and responsibilities:

  • Lead the Treasury and Banking Section, including the co-ordination and management of the work of the section and performance of the team
  • Provide high level of professional and specialist advice to the wider departmental network on banking and revenue related issues
  • Manage strategic treasury functions by monitoring cash drawdowns in line with budgets and expense forecasts
  • Develop innovative solutions, make judgements and decisions in relation to the efficient management of SAP revenue receipting and payment methods to ensure efficient and cost effective revenue collection operations
  • Maintain productive working relationships with staff and key stakeholders and clients, including banks, security firms who collect cash and providers of revenue collection facilities such as MasterCard/Visa, AMEX, PayPal and Australia Post.
Additional information:
  • Sound knowledge of PGPA Act and the Governments Financial Management Framework
  • Good knowledge of accounting principles and practices
  • Qualifications and relevant experience in Accounting and Finance is required.
