We are seeking caring and professional individuals to become part of the Caring Approach team to promote independence for people living at home. Caring Approach has a position available for a skilled Disability Service Officer in Canberra.
General duties include:
- Provide daily planning, advocacy, service communication & transport as required.
- Documenting daily routines and monitoring outcomes.
- Coordinate services where required to do so.
- Provide 1:1 or small group training in response to peoples needs.
- Food preparation and service where required.
- Medication administration and monitoring of associated documentation.
- Working in conjunction with the clinical care coordinator to implement best practices.
- Assistance with activities of daily living.
- Assist with applying for and monitoring a persons individual funding to ensure it meets peoples support needs.
- Supporting people with complex needs and provide information to their health supports as required.
To be successful in this role you will need:
- An understanding of delivering care in a person centred way
- Diploma of Disability
- The ability to problem solve and advocate on peoples behalf
- Be available for a variety of shifts
- Ability to fulfil shift duties and have excellent time management skills
- Have appropriate visa to work in Australia
- Current Police check within the last 12 months or willingness to obtain prior to employment
- Working with Vulnerable People Check (WWVP)
- Smart phone with the ability to install apps
- 6 months minimum experience delivering / coordinating personal care and services
- Current first aid/CPR certificate
- Drivers licence and own fully insured transport
- Have an empathetic and understanding approach to providing care to people with complex needs including mental health
- completion of the NDIS new worker module or willingness to complete as part of the organisations induction process.
Desirable:
- Experience in working with people with an intellectual disability
- Certification and or experience in bowel care
- Certification and or experience in medication administration
- Experience in working with people that require manual handling
- ability to implement positive behaviour support strategies and an awareness of person centred active support including monitoring of restricted practice
