We are looking for Support Workers in the Toowoomba area to support a young person achieve their goal of attending boarding school with their friends and peers. The hours will include before and after school, overnight sleepovers and weekend shifts.
As the shifts occur in a single-gender boarding house Xavier considers this to be recruitment for a genuine occupational requirement that the position is held by a female person, and the exemption in section 25 of the Anti-Discrimination Act 1991 applies.
The role:
- Provides support to a young person and works collaboratively with the family and the Xavier Service Coordinators to assist the client to achieve their goals
- Comprehensive initial and on-going training and support will be provided to help you acquire and maintain the necessary skills
- Have some experience and skills working with children and young people with high/complex Disability Support needs
- A genuine interest in helping our client work towards achieving their goals
- Be willing to bring your energy and enthusiasm to each shift ensuring that support provided is of the highest quality and in accordance with the young person's needs
- Sound written and verbal communication skills
- Be reliable and punctual
- Have basic computer skills and a smartphone with internet access for work purposes
- Have a willingness to continuously learn and maintain professional skills and knowledge
- Have consistent availability to work the required hours across a fortnightly roster
- Have alignment with the attributes we value at Xavier including - honesty, integrity, treating others with dignity and respect
- Possess the physical ability to carry out all tasks required of the position
- A current driver's licence
- NDIS Worker Screening Check (paid worker) and a Work with Children Check/Blue Card (paid worker)
- Completion of NDIS Code of Conduct modules
- National Police Check/Certificate or willingness to obtain same
- Appropriate work rights for Australia
- Current First Aid and CPR certificate is preferred but not essential
- Willingness to comply with Xavier safe work practices
- A Certificate lll in Disability/Individual Support or similar would be highly regarded but not essential.
