Key Responsibilities:
- To support, enable and empower people with disabilities and their families to live quality lifestyles and participate in activities that are meaningful in their lives Specific duties may include:
- Assist individuals with personal care including personal hygiene and grooming, mealtime assistance and to take medications.
- Assist individuals to access and participate in activities at a range of community venues
- Assist individuals and their families/carers with a range of household tasks including mealtime preparation, general housekeeping and domestic duties.
- Assist individuals to access the community to undertake shopping, bill paying, banking or to attend to medical and other health related appointments.
- Arrange and/or provide transport to and from activities
- To assist people with disabilities to achieve identified goals and develop new skills
- To encourage positive and socially appropriate behaviour and to effectively respond to clients’ needs even when demonstrated in a challenging manner
- To ensure that all matters, individuals (with assistance of a formal or informal decision maker where applicable) are offered the opportunity and support to make informed decisions and choices
- To ensure that the individual’s dignity and privacy is protected at all times
- To ensure that the client’s identity, culture and diversity are valued and respected
- To maintain the necessary records of service provision, and hours worked for the purposes of service administration and accountability
- To provide supports in a safe and competent manner, with care and skill
- To promptly take steps to raise and act on concerns about matters that may impact the quality and safety of support provided to your clients
- To take all reasonable steps to prevent and respond to all forms of violence against, exploitation, neglect and abuse of people with a disability.
- To act with respect for individual rights to freedom of expression, self-determination and decision-making in accordance with applicable laws and conventions
- To act with integrity, honesty and transparency
Additional Responsibilities
- To proactively contribute to identifying own training and development needs and to maintain up-to-date knowledge, skills and abilities
- To participate in mandatory training and ongoing staff development and opportunities
- To adhere to organisational policies, procedures, guidelines and instructions
- To contribute effectively to the identification, removal and reduction of workplace hazards and risks that relate to both staff and client’s to ensure a safe and healthy environment

Qualifications
- Current First Aid & CPR Certificate
- Currently hold a Certificate III in Individual Support or other relevant qualification or are willing to obtain your Certificate III in Individual Support – Disability.
Key Selection Criteria
- Good verbal and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively across a range of people and situations
- Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position eg. Manual handling and lifting of up to 20 kgs (wheelchairs and walkers)
- Ability to follow organisational policies and procedures whilst working autonomously. You will be provided with indirect supervision and support from your manager
- Ability to work effectively as a team member
- You should be a caring and compassionate individual looking for a chance to step into a truly meaningful role that offers a sense of purpose
- You will have empathy, be practical and have a mature outlook
- Experience with CPL, Down Syndrome, PEG Feeding, Stoma Care clients is essential.
Other Requirements
- Hold Current C Class Drivers Licence and own reliable and insured vehicle
- Hold or are eligible to meet the requirements of NDIS Screening and Working with Children Clearance
- Compliant AFP National Police Check before commencement and every three years if working with aged care client
- Availability to attend staff meetings and training
- Be willing to attend a free client Meet and Greet with prospective client

Licence/Certification:
- First Aid Certification and CPR
- National Police Certificate (Preferred)
- Provisional P2 Minimum Drivers Licence
- NDIS Workers Screening Card - Yellow Card (REQUIRED)
- Currently studying Certificate III or higher in Disability Support or willing to obtain
